Many of you will have heard Bogey making some very nasty noises when out and about lately. The problem was diagnosed as the suspension cones. Jim very kindly got me a good deal for new cones and knuckles at the Brighton show last week ;D and today I set about changing them. I was determined to do the job on my own but very soon needed help with a minor technical problem.........my first thank you is to Dave for not laughing when I phoned him with a very silly question ;D Following his advice, things moved along very quickly with everything coming apart easily ;D My next bit of help was from Tony who had a bit of a struggle removing the plastic cup that should have been attached to the knuckle. Thanks Tony ;D Everything went back in place and I was about to put the wheel back on when Jim appeared for a cuppa......... Thanks Jim and Al for giving my work a full inspection. ;D ;D ;D After a short break, I tackled the other side. Things went well until it came to removing the hi-lo and the plastic cup again. My final thanks go to Daz for helping out.........that will probably be the last time he pops round for a cuppa ;D I am now filthy dirty, cut, bruised and grazed but very pleased with my days work ;D Whoever would have thought it........................ Here are a few pics ;D

Errr........I thought I had fixed it, but started crunching again yesterday........same side. Took it all to bits again.......much easier this time Worked out that I had the hi-lo's different lengths Adjusted them to match and all seems to be OK so far They say the best way to learn is by making mistakes Neil, were you referring to the cones or me and Daz?

Here's the latest news on Bogey...... Very sadly he failed his MOT on Friday 1. Offside headlamp aim too low 2. Nearside front suspension joint has excessive play in a upper suspension ball joint 3. (no foot both) rear brake recording little of no effort 4. Nearside (hand) rear brake recording little or no effort 5. Service brake efficiency below requirements Friday evening I set about investigating the brake problem starting with the nearside. I soon found the fault to be a leaky brake cylinder Luckily Tony had a full set of spares and with lots of help from him, I set about changing the cylinder and shoes. After a long day at work Saturday, I then tackled the offside brakes.......excellent news, was the cylinder wasn't leaky...........and then I damaged it taking off the old shoes After much swearing at the cylinder retaining circlip, we gave up for the night. Jim and Dave then got a grilling online from me as to the best way to fit the circlips..........(they are the new bane of my life ) only to find out there is a special tool for doing this After a good nights sleep I set out determined to get the clip in place and after a few attempts it just slid into place ;D ;D Soon the new shoes were on and it was time to learn brake bleeding ;D Once I had done this, I took him for a run down the road to check everything worked ok, and to my amazement, my clutch problem had miraculously solved itself too ;D We had been advised to pump some grease into the ball joint to stop the excessive play, so it was off with the front wheel, and grease was added. Then it was just a matter of doing the headlight, nice and simple and no grease involved ;D All now ready for retest next week ;D ;D ;D Old leaky cylinder and shoes Nice shiny cylinder and shoes ;D Struggling with the ******* circlip Note to self.........time that t-shirt went in the wash ;D ;D

I don't intend needing one again ;D Metal bar and mallet worked just fine this morning.........and cheaper too ;D But as I owe Tony a replacement brake set, I ought to fit his too........just to keep in practise ;D
