best bet with the rear brakes is to get the extra long flexi hoses (braded) then you dont need pipes, just cable tie the hoses to the arm N

Well folks, the venerable member of our mini fleet (An injection mini ;D ) has done so well and reliably for the last few months. Just before the Riveria Run she got new shocks, O/S radius arm and a brake hose. A little niggle was a noise on the N/S front hub.. Just a little play on the bearing, packing with greese and tightened up. Cheers again Paul and Dave. I'd put off checking her since , the Duckling has been full steam ahead to allow Matilda to have a break from daily commuting (Starting every day and driving to Uckfield rain or shine with a problem ;D ). So off I went with Paul to Mini's on the wreck. I took most my tools to do the front subby mounts as the floor pan mount died on Daves Birthday Cruise. I jacked her up at the camp site and found the play was now a fight in the top ball joints. Matilda remained parked for the rest of the weekend. Cheers to BMC for getting WP to the show, a ton was spent on ball joints, mounts, bearings and all those regular servicing spares that one car really deserves . Tried making a start at the show but the ball joint nuts would not move, even 'a mechanic' couldn't help. So I resigned to just replacing the subby mounts . Got back from the show Sunday at a relaxing pace (easy in the corners) via Paul's. Cheers Paul for the Fun Gun Paul . Why the Neighbours love me!!! The fun gun did what Paul's torque bar couldn't/shouldn't do.... :-[Four hours to do all four ball joints and tie bars while I was at it. ;D (New tie bars WERE purchased for the Duckling...) Thanks to my Xmas torque bar (Cheers Josie) all the nuts were done up by the book. End of play 10:45... What a day! Hangovers, Sunburn, grazed knucles and an I owe you for a torque bar. And the wheel bearing are still okay ;D

Poor Matilda, even though a put all the shims in the ball joints (some of the old shim's too) they were just to tight. The steering just would not return and really did not feel safe to drive. With the Duckling doing it best to stay on the drive, a quick fix was required. A droning noise was getting louder so action was required. 'You cant do it all' said Josie, that evening Matilda was with another household. Cheers Shawn for fitting the new front wheel bearings, CV and re-shimming the ball joints. Good of you to check the ECU fault codes, good to hear she has a clean bill of health. I love injections Nice turnaround of 36hrs too ;D Saldy... on the way home the droning got louder... Happy with Shawn's quality of work and new bearings it was indicating the rear bearings were the issue. 22/7 Sunday morning, 10:30 - Rolled out of bed 11:00 - Jacked up back of Matilda 11:10 - Discover rear right wheel bearing is ducked up 11:20 - Discover my MPI rear right bearing is okay but full of water... 11:40 - Cleaned and re-greased MPI bearing fitted to Matilda 11:54 - Josie torques up the wheel nuts 11:55 - Test drive, bearing sounds fine 12:00 - Departed for the Sunday cruise. ;D Thing is.. I'm sure I put a new bearing on there with the new radius arm before the Rivera Run. The bearing that came off Sunday has little bits of metal inside. Like one of the rollers has died... Watch this space.

Busy weekend... Matilda was treat to four new rubber springs.. Not to bad a job, apart from leaving half the spring crompressor in the spring on the car and breaking a rear trumpet... thankyou Jim for the replacement!!! it all went well. Wow!!! Driving to work over some poor roads Heathfield to Uckfield everyday it so nice now. There were some holes I avoided due to the shock but now she glides over them! The suspension height is bedding back in after 60miles, but she still looks like shes ready for the off road rally special! ;D Found another hidden patch under the fuel tank. And also found a hole. Guess Matilda's body will be getting done this winter now Front tyres are srubbed in the insides, might be the new tie-bars? Will swap around the tyres and try a get the tracking done at the service next week. (Pre-track oil change ;D)

Seeing as it's my car, I havent really done much with Matilda, nor posted much in the diary. However, as Si has gone away for a couple of weeks & left me with the car to fend for myself, I encounter my first challange..... ..... both headlight bulbs have blown. Also realised that they are sealed units too. I have 3 options. 1) I wait until I am near the brooklands area to pick up some new ones from Mini Speed (or Mini Spares - I can never remember which one it is! ). I may be able to get up there a week Tuesday as I am in the Guildford area, but that's over a week away. So will need to make sure I dont go anywhere in Matilda in the dark! ;D 2) I temporally liberate the Ducklings' head lamps & attempt fitment - however, a) I think Paul may be wanting to borrow the Duck, and b) I'm afraid that if I attempt removal, the poor thing will fall apart! 3) I beg & plead my innocence to all you wonderful club members ;D to see if anyone has two spare sealed head lamp units that I could buy off them or borrow until I can get my own! ;D ;D ;D ;D If number 3 is the case, and I am able to gather the bits on Sunday at Jim & Shirley's' after the rampage, then the donator will have the privilege to watch & laugh as I attempt to fit myself ;D Well....I've got to learn some day!
