8-)yeah it is now it took a fair bit of metalwork , did flatting off and erased some imperfections like a few runs etc then started on the steel flip front which also has been sitting in the rear garden ,with flapper wheel on grinder 80 grit removed surface rust spots applied rust stopper to the rubbed down ground areas then rubbed down rest of the flip front finishing off by a light blow of black aerosol to prevent rust on bare metal whilst standing during wet weather.Next will be some filling of those small dents on the wing and very carefully grinding off some weld lumps in the bonnet grooves as i dont like the look of them in there and want it to look as normal as poss. the two in the back of the car were my willing helpers Kieren and Carl till next time see you in a few days off to show the cooper at ardingly , good luck the guys doing eastbourne this weekend . back to it again ,wings filled with quite a few skimms of filler untill i got it right , a lot of werious rubbing down on other areas on the flip front then when ready gave it a few coats of high build primer ................... do the other side ! now with that sorted and dry outside with the wire grinder to remove the flaking paint and rust then rust stopper and then spray with gloss black once ready . inside the engine area and boot area the colour is a vivid candy colour !! a bit more prepping on the roof as there was a fair bit of over spray lurking you may of noticed i have painted the interior whilst i had the black in the gun ok time to put first coat of base (colour) coat on to the door shuts and detail bits like in the bonnet gullies ,seams and sills. laying on some more base coat on wing and rest of car front off to het the scuttle covered and did the front too whilst on the tresstle. thats it both sides done and ready for another coat but hanging the spray gun up for one day as neighbour has come round and asked if i was doing any more due to the smell so time up for a couple of days untill they are out . in the mean time we went over to pullborough to see an old mate and do some electrics for him in his new toy !! this is what were going up to the IMM in later on this month .

Ok got a fair bit done since the last update in august ,well the vaux powered motor in my mates car went bang so i was involved in helping him sort that little issue out details on another thread here. I have layed on a coat of laquer with purple flake in it followed by about four to five further coats of pure laquer, this job was fraught with little problems as i did not have the right gun to lay on laquer to my satisfaction. Since then i have been busy re building and re firbishing many components taken off the car when it arrived , unfortunately the parts were stored under cover but the containers ended up filling up with water and some of the gear got ruined or seriously marred by the rusty water hence causing more work.Adding to this i have had trouble finding stuff which was removed two years prior ,,,,,,,probably used on other things which have gone thru the workshop or still lurking to be found !! we live in hope lol I have spent quite a few hours in scrapyards and forums trying to get those illusive parts which i needed , indeed i am still tracking down bits now ,some of which were missing from the car when i got it to be fair. as you can see it is in a cadbury purple with flake ,the interior is going to be from a purple equinox and i have managed to get some purple rear wheel arch vinals and a purple steering wheel. the roof lining when ive got some more enthusiasm and a few bodies with a heater in the workshop will be installed , this is a black roof lining, black carries all the way thru the car like door latch plates , rear numberplate lamp and some components under the bonnet. So far i have managed to install the complete hydraulic brake system using mostly new parts , i have rebuilt the brake callipers and the pistons were knackered as were the seals ,the rears have new wheel cylinders and shoes and adjusters with new copper piping to suit.I have modified the braking from standard to servo assisted by changing the pedal box ,and drilling a new hole in the bulkhead for the extra bolt ,i also had to make a special plate to cover the oversized hole where the pedal pushrod passes thru the bulkhead. I installed the switch plate and dash rails checked the wiring and installed and upgraded to electronic flasher units found in the rover 1 and 2 series so now the flashers will work in a steady rate unlike those horrible bi-metal flashers which tend to fail when ever they get a sniff of water or cold weather!! I have put the side repeaters in the A pannels rather than in the flip front which makes the wiring a bit tidyer so now i will not have to pull out the bulb holders from the wing every time i flip the front, the side repeaters are led type which have eight yellow led's in each lamp. The front subframe has been installed with the colour coordinated brace bars holding it all together , today i installed the engine and spent the day bolting it all up together. i managed to get it running using a hiff44 bearing in mind it is only a small bore engine 1100 i was surprised it ran on this carb. The carb is mounted on a howley ally manifold which has a vacume port in it for the servo vacume takeoff the only thing is i dont have a banjo bolt for this port which is currently blanked with a bolt at the moment , i also need to manufacture a bracket for the throttle cable to run thru to operate the butterfly on the carb . so there you are up to date so far, picture to follow.

;D thanks for the comments guys , yes it should be ready for next years season im heald up at the moment tho as i am finding it difficault finding a hif38 carb , late indicator / wiper stalks and ally manifold with brake takeoff to continue with the job ,i have put wanted posts up but no one seems to have stuff or not reading wanteds ! ive looked at ebay but keep getting beat at the last moment. trouble is its stuck in the workshop stopping me from doing anything else its not weather proofed so i cant stick it outside at this moment in time.

Shawn , Forgiveness please ;D I have not seen any of these forum posts . What a cracking little motor . Looks like the sort of thing youve been itching to do since right back in the days when we were in Meridian Mini Club . Great colur For the flip front , I guess its a bit late to say but why dont you simply nut and bolt it together at the 'A' panels ? 2 Brackets welded to inside of 'A' panel with captive nuts welded to it , one bracket higher up panel than other with the overlap flap of metal like you already have between the 2 brackets . On the flip front..... again 2 more brackets each side but this time with bolt holes in . All you do is fit the front and bolt it together , its nice and tight , doesnt flap about and looks neat on the outside . Mentioned this to Si re: autotester . Next time I saw it Pauls old MK1 front end was neately nut and bolted together at the A panels ;D

Hi Dave long time no see before i go any further merry christmas to you and yours mate . Nice idear about the bolting up i may do this as im a bit reluctant to fiddle with those dzus fasteners (tricky little blighters at best) andy has them on the 16 jobby and are an arse to do thru the wide arches with a screw driver !! i am in a bit of a quandary about the seam edges im not sure how to cover them up , i would like to use some sort of thin rubber edging and put proper ones on the rest of the pillar but i dont want it to look out of place . as for the front i have hinges but bolting it up at the back plates on the a pannels is a great idear, you are right about the project i have been stewing with this one for a good many years but as with most good projects i have come to a standstill owing to the absence of a few parts . i even need a dipstick !!!!!!!! blimey . dipstick located ! piping found plus carb ,exhaust and many other bits (thanks dean) found new indicator stalks so will be fitting dash and steering coweling etc. need to fit yet another screen as the first one cracked upon install due to a couple of chips in the edge . two man job only me here most of the time ! carb fitted hope to run the motor over the next few days. New exhaust trial fitted now fitted properly and sits closer under car.sourced new boot rubber and fitted the locks ,fitted doors and furniture. next plan to get carpet ,heater sound deadening screen and interior fitted also plan to fit fresh air pipes under bonnet with modified ducts . then ill be adjusting the front hinges on bonnet to make the fit better and then experiment with fastenings etc after fit up with lighting and check straps. well i have run the motor up and she sounds really nice with that pipe on there and the hiff38 carb mmmnnnnn nice ive also fitted one piece carpet wich requires some glue in the right places sound proofing fitted before the carpets then the speedo cable (got the cuts and bruises to prove it) found if i removed the drive coupling and put cable onto it then replace coupling with its 7 1/6 bolt it was a lot easier than trying to get the cable tread started on the gear box !! then moved project back out of workshop to sort out Aprils (cooper) mot ,she went down on low beam lights not working and ineficient nearside rear brake ,having replaced the o/s rear brake cylinder due to a leak and new shoes on this side the brakes on the side repaired was very good ,i had removed the drum from the n/s to de dust and adjust but they didnt achieve the muster . having learnt she would need a new rear vallence i have now replaced shoes on the n/s ready for re test . now you would assume the lighting problem would be a simple thing like a fuse bad conection in the grille area wouldnt you ? well .............after having taken the grille off and the fuse box lid off and the inline fuses near the air cleaner i was puzzled to find no cure for the lack of power to the high beam but the rover spotlights were functioning ok ! after a couple of hours pontificating and removing looms and stripping other bits to test the path of the cable i rmembered when i got the car a good few years ago on the way back from newquay we lost the dip beam and found a hidden in line fuse holder had melted down to a state of uselesness i proceeded to remove the factory fitted dash stereo and all of its wiring ,then the clock cluster to find the hidden fuses yes there it was another white inline fuse had melted down and gone brown that was both the high low beam and now the high beam gone bad from the factory !!! ,,,,,,,,i remembered the last time we took her out to a club meet we could smell burning plastic when we arrived home after the lights had been on for 40 minuites . replaced the fuse holder and problem was solved this job took best part of three hours tweo and a half of these was fault finding and half an hour fixing imagine booking this into a garage at 60 quid an hour ! just glad im capable of effecting my own repairs . any way re test due beginning of the week should be fine Thank you dean for helping with the corner rubbers ;D
