Hi all Ive had the project on the road for a few weeks now with that awful niggles in the back of my mind about the diabolic paint job , or rather how it turned out months after it was finished .
The whole car went from a nice shiny base coat and lacquer to a shiny crocodile skinned crazed nasty mess over the course of about a year .
This really hacked me off and i ended up leaving the car locked up in the workshop for almost two months without even opening the door with the depression it had put me in !!!
This week i ended up hocking some more old sh1t from the workshop and sheds in the property and made enough cash to av another go at sorting this paintwork out .
With the kind help of a couple of old friends i started to dismantle the car again and rubbing down the offending paintwork ,the several coats of 1k lacquer i had put on were to blame as the base (colour coat) and primer were fine with no crazing in them .
so it took about 25 hours of careful rubbing down and preparing the surface for its first coat of high build primer.
8pm Monday evening
Tuesday morning flatting off then ......
tuesday evening 8pm
Wednesday afternoon flatting off again !!
wednesday evening at 6pm
6.35 base coat applied !
6.50 pm mixing of laquer started and application comences at 6.55 ......
Then with remainder of laquer the flake is added 10 teaspoons to 3/4 litre of clear coat to be exact !!
clearcoat and flake was applied and workshop was closed down for the night at 9.54 pm .
Tomorrow another litre of clearcoat will be applied to seal in flake and finish up ,prior to this however the whole workshop will need to be cleaned and washed down to remove oversprayed dust ,flake and other contaminates ,pictures to follow .....
