A couple of suggestions from me...
1. Expand the committee to include two or three extra people. These extra people would not have roles as such but be present at committee meetings to help with ideas/guidance/decisions.
2. Have a Committee meeting more frequently, once a month?
Ok, those two points above may seem like adding more complication to the organisation of the club but I think we need to have more co-ordination and clearer decision making. The committee may have to be trusted with more decision making outside of the regular monthly meeting, but thats what a committee is for. Don't get me wrong though, I don't want the club to be mired in red tape, I just feel that there is too much confusion at present. The monthly meeting at Langney should be more of an active social event rather than for a load of people having to listen to the Club's Admin etc. I appreciate that a monthly committee meeting would take up more of it's member's free time, but more committee members would mean that the load would be spread and the occassional absence not really a problem.
I also think at the moment that there is too much expectation for members to attend this show/that show/this local show..etc. If you want to do a show, fine. Let others know about it and if they want to go they will. Everyone has different reasons for being into Minis, some will enjoy sitting at a local country fair/motor show for a weekend, others may enjoy driving halfway across the country to tear around a Race Circuit or down a Drag strip. Each to his own. The Pilgrimage should be the thing we all do together, I think that the expectation of us having hundreds of cars turning up from here and there is false. It should be seen as a Club event first and foremost. We have done exceptionally well these last few years and should be content with the fact we can raise a very respectable amount of money for charity in the club's name.
Apart from that, I love you all, especially Jim, and look forward to moving forwards without upsetting the friendliness and silliness I expect from this club!

Got to agree with the last post, let's all do the bit's we enjoy and not moan if people don't feel inclined to turn out for every event. As for the pilgrimage, why not make free to members, even if it means putting the membership fee up a little....

Delly, if we increase the membership to include entry to the Pilgramige we will make more for the charity as all the members will be paying for entry and if it's already paid for by members it should encourage more to turn up, it's only a suggestion I thought that's what the forum was for.

There is already input from other non commitee members into the club , this has been going on since day 1 . I do it and am not on commitee anymore , Tony used to before he was on comitee , etc etc.
People do what they want now regarding shows etc so that wont change either .
Suppose Pilgrimige could be free , guess we dont bother with the wine , run plaque and other frills .
The thing is if the club cant get behind it why bother . Which is why Rachel is not doing it next year and Josie is . My personal thought on next year with Josie doing the organising : This event takes a lot to organise . She works long hours and does a lot of travelling for work , meaning spare time during week is nil . I do hope the club gets behind the run for next year and she is not wasting her precious time.

To follow up on Paul, more of a larger/open/fresh committee is essential. Folk do want to get involved, I just need to press gang... erm sorry EDMC needs to recruit them! Yes some peeps contribute to the club from outside the committee but are they invited to contribute regardless of there been no defined role on the committee. Have we used their support? Dare I say with the Eastbourne & RAM Motor Club, their monthly committee meet keeps the team informed and supported to even host the social nights in the chairmans absence. Else our club goes back a step to been just a 'social group', as before the committee was founded. Then build up again at a later date when folk are inclined. So what if we take a step back to leap forward another year? Erm... newletter... keep it simple. Does it need to be anything more than the committee contacts, upcoming events and who to contact/arrangements to take part. Anything else is a bonus. Its core principle is to keep those not on the forum or 'offline' in touch with whats about to happen. Its essential at least a bi-monthly newsletter goes out during the Feb-Aug season for those peeps by email/post. Maybe one of many reasons why some fringe members are not about? The club venue, have we raised that subject yet? Can we ask about putting up a trophy cabinet? Our amazing club does have a lot sucess to brag about. Since when has the Pilgrimage been a flop?! In the time of a recession to top over a grand funds raised, improve the venues and draw in non-club members for so far away, I would say its progressing nicely. But seriously, in the year of mini 50 with a mini event every Sat/Sun and were we expecting more!? Top day out and looking forward to help again with next years 'new' route. Interesting to make it free for clubmembers, but at a £10odd per car anyway.... is it not value for money? at the moment is that they are all giving up their free time all ready and feel like they are banging their heads against a brick wall. Bit defeatist Tony, stop banging your head against the wall and start banging out a newsletter It may hurt less ;D ;D ;D ;D I very much think we do have peeps in the wind to step forward. But key to this will be the support of the existing/previous committee. On another note, talk of Daz stepping aside. Could I suggest an honorary role in respect of Daz been instrumental in the founding of the club, leading the club to success and through mega enjoyable adventures. I was thinking of 'Club Elder' or 'EDMC Grandad' ;D Also on that... anyone serving on the committee for more that three years should have free honorary membership for life? Should be an interesting club meet this Monday coming.

Thought I would say a couple of words hehe. Been with the club for 2 and abit years now and had much fun and met some great people. I do feel that we could sometimes make abit more of an effort to welcome new members into the club, I mean I already knew Alan from work so was ok when came to my 1st club meet. Another thing with our 'Mini Specific Problems' section of the forum is that not everyone know's the in's and out's of a mini. Sometimes people will ask question that some people may thing "this is stupid how do they not know this" but everyone needs to start somewhere and its how you learn. I have asked some stupid question's and looking back know the answer to but its happens and probably if the person posting did abit of research 1st then might not of posted. Regarding events and people have already said this, at the end of the day not everyone wants to do every event under the sun and not come to every club meet. I know I havent been very active for the last year or so and people will have probably noticed this but have been at uni, since been back for the summer I work monday nights + weekends preventing me attending monthly club meets/shows and with my crash on top of that! I can understand why some people are getting abit annoyed/fed up with it always coming down to them to sort the events out or the club looking at them to sort stuff out and do feel this needs to change and people do need to get more involved with the club's activities/planning but not to be forced on. On those notes, would like to say goodbye for a couple of months till christmas time because back off to uni next weekend but will still be on here though. Cheers to those that have helped me out and advanced me/answered my question in the past. Love you all, well not all of you lol Ant (and yes I do love a good banana and will probably have some at Riv Run 2010)

:)hi all i would like to add something postive its only two of the committee members that are steping down for a well earned rest :)the rest of the committee are standing strong and will stand again if no one new wants to step forward so there will still be a edmc.I also have been talking to one of our new members who is very keen to help so he will be helping me out sorting at a rolling road day. ;D ;DSo i really dont think the club will be taking a step backwards we will move forward with daz as our chairman i hope . lisax

Hey guys! I know ive not been a member for too long and i havent been to loads of events so far! Very much agreed with ants post! But i really dont think you guys realise how scary it is to turn up to a meet or an event not knowing anyone, you are all a pretty tight group so to just turn up and walk into an already formed friendship group is scary, i even get scared still time to time and i know a few faces! I didnt know anyone when i first joined and turned up to a meet alone, i joined because a friend said how lovely all of you were and they were right you all are! After one event to get to know people thats all it took and ive made some good friends now. I've been reading a few things on here and stayed quite and its coming across as if everyone is putting alot of pressure on the club. "People have to write for the news letter, they have to go to events" etc etc. If it was put across in a more fun way than people would want to come more. People have to want to do something, its turning into a chore rather than a hobby. I know everyone has busy lives with jobs etc. but everyone can make time for a hobby. Why not ask individuals if they would like to put something to the club? You never know might add something new to the club. I know this is going to go against what i may have just said but i may not be able to make the meet monday as some of you may know already...i havent got alice atm until tues and i have work until about 6ish so unless i arrange a lift i wont be able to make it! But i hope everything gets posted on here and everything gets resolved and everyone is all happy and smiling and the club can start a new.
