hello its been some time and my mark 1 has not changes just got full of more junk but i contacted a bloke called david hollis at the britsih mini club to and he said for me to clame back the orignal reg number i need to restore it back to its orignal state. so i am on a mission to get it done by the IMM 2009 for the 50th anniversary of mini, its going to be tight so any help people can give on what spec and any other useful info would be great, i am not dead sure on the seats and carpet , i think they should be dark blue but i am not sure, ? its floor start 1962 , fiesta yellow, 850cc thank you,

hello. well i have been busy ordering and getting all the panels for my mk1 and learning more about it, just waiting for the nice post person!! to knock on the door fingers crossed monday, also i am putting in a 998 cooper engine from a mark 1-2 in, it looks the same as the 850 engine( except for engine and gearbox numbers) but with a bit power, plus it has a 4 sync box also i have just made myself a new tool, thanks to a kind member from brighton mini club for the parts. just welded all the parts together and that was it, the centre bar at its highest is a meter of the floor and you car adjust the height ,so as soon as my mini is down to a bare shell it will be put on the spit so i can spin it round,do all the welding plus when it comes back from spraying it will be easy to put the new brake line etc under the car, just got to sort out the mounting point through the speedo and back seat , i dont want to drill any hole so i will have to be careful, and when i am not using it , it all comes apart. dean

oh its been some time since i wrote about my mk1,
final sold the other shell which was parked in front of the mk1, so now i have room to start work, got home from work today and lifted the engine out next are subframes then up on the spit to do the body work.
but i have been busy spending money buying lots of parts so far i have bought
1. a very good condition complete set of trim in powder blue. 2. heritage, wings, inner and outer A panels both sides, rear valance, both door skins, 3. then m-machine boot repair panel, scuttle repair, inner sill, 4. NOS boxes smith silver backed speedo, 5. complete set of brake lines 6. mk2 cooper engine, new pistons, new SW5-07 duplex kit, cam bearings, big ends, mains, 7. 12g295 head, freshly reconditioned, ported polished, bronse guilds, double valve springs, larger exhaust valves, 8. new newton commercials carpet 9. cooper s brakes, caliper seals and pistons, 10. very good mk1 bonnet,
just waiting for the first show to start so i can get all the litle bits and bobs, glass rubbers, et etc,
going to push hard to get it ready for IMM 09 ,( stop laughing) i have all the money together for my respray so i can have a good paint job,
while its away subframes will be blasted and powder coated, brake systems over hauled and built back up ready when the shell comes back
as soon as i make some good progress i post some photos

right, got home from work, had a little rest then outside to work on the mini,
dropped the front subframe out with all the brakes on, got i bit cought on the streering rack , little push and it dropped on the floor,
then to the rear and so happy not a single bolt so far has, snapped, sheered or broke, and lucky for me the last owner has already started to unbolt a few thing and a few bolts were already loose,
and tomorrow task is doors, boot and glass , put my shelf up and empty out all the crap in the mini,

few new things have happened, i managed to get hold of a 22g1288 remote box which takes a magic wand stick, 4 sync, just want i have been looking for, so i am happy, engine is down the engine builders had a problem with the cam bearings but sorted now, get it back friday got to dry fit together then take it back to him to get it to the right compressor ratio i want to run also put some shelfs up in the garage and emptied out most of the car, after work today i went out a removed the wings and front panel, had to do it carefully as i need to repair the front panel and keep the inner wings, but now i have had a closer look i my just replace the inner wings , more expense

hello, been busy over the last week or so, once i got the front end off i was not happy with the condition of the front sections of the inner wings and the front panel, so a phone call to M-Machine and ordered new mk1 front sectons of both inner wings, new front panel and 2 rear seat repair panels, wednesday after work i started to cut off the inner and outer A panel, which were still the original panel from new 47 years ago, few cut with the angle grinder and the help of a air chisel and it came off clean, and its fairly solid except at the bottom were the sill , had a better look at the sill and i am not happy with them , not welded on properly and just covering up the old rusty one underneath so thats coming off as well, yesterday and today i sorted out the job i have been wanting to do for ages, making the jigs to mount the shell onto the spit, i love doing this kind of thing, getting the grinder out and had some fun with the welder, and now its all done and floating 2 foot off the floor on the spit, it going to make my life much easier changing the sills and cleaning the floor, bit of a mess in there at the moment but it won't take long to sort out and hopefully get some panel back on, engine wise, i built up the short motor except cam and took it back to the engine builder with the head and head gasket to have the compression ratio set right, also last weekend i went up to leister to pick up a engine and gearbox, which has the gearbox i have been after for ages, a remote box which takes a wand stick 4 synchro, as popped into mini spares on the way up and bought a gearbox rebuild kit and a water pump, and saw the black mini that can be won at L2B, nice and clean 12" wheel cooper and tomorrow (22 feb 09 ) i am popping over to portsmouth to see family and also picking up a early mk1 front screen as the original was smashed once there is more progress i will up date i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc94/dean-williams/IMG_2509.jpg[/IMG]i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc94/dean-williams/IMG_2508.jpg[/IMG]

hello again, now its up on the spit i began to attack the outer sills, and what a shock, it was not welded underneath but it was screwed and rivetted then skimmed in filler ( proper job!!!) , so they came off very easy with the air chisel, once i bent it down there was a big lump of CONCRETE holding the sill to the inner sill !!!!! and only welded along the seam in places, while i had the shell on its side i got the drivers door off and the first bolts i had the cut off, know it would not be long till i would have to do that, just ordered new panels, so next weekend i will be welding not screwing them on,

Ha Ha, That second picture down looks like an advert for OWLETTS, They used to go round in brown lorries emblazoned with the words Nuts,Bolts,Washers,Screws,Mesh etc. on the side. Now I know why they invented Gripfill.
john ;D ;D ;D
Hats off to you Dean!
