Before you think it's a chav's car, honestly the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel. Brilliant thing. You have never driven a Series 1 Peugeot 106 Rallye . Less power than the clio and 9 seconds to 60 but it was only 1294cc 8valve 100hp . Bought it new , amazing thing , when it came on cam at 5000 it just took off. Just steer it with the throttle on roundabouts and it would go up hills like a train . I really miss that car and would buy it back if I could . L369 VUF in white. Iam a big hot Clio fan Stephen . The cars are great , nearly bought a 2 year old Williams 2 some time ago. Kept the 106 instead. I really enjoy watching the Clio Cup racing , immense fun to see on track in a similar way the Mini's are .

+1 for the small french stuff, I still keep contemplating getting another 205 GTI (i've had 3!), the 1.9 is so much fun, a torquey 1.9 in a car that weighs less then a current Lotus Elise...

I had a 205 1.9 GTi a few years back and was an excellent car. I also had the Saxo VTS which was never quite as good but still wish I had kept that as opposed to trading for the bini.

Binis are great fun and really solid. But you can get a regular low mileage Clio 182 (as opposed to the Trophy edition) for about £3k. Just have to wait ten years to burn off the chav image.
A bit like 205s and 106 Rallyes are classic collectors cars now. I'm hoping the Clio Trophy will be similar in a few years time if I keep it nice.

It will be if you can keep hold of it long enough! You'll have to sell it to buy a nice sensible family car at some point... ;D

You could have bought a JCW simialar spec to mine for £6.5K about a year ago as thats all they were worth but thankfully they have seem to have gone up in value again. now you would be luckey to get a standard spec R53 S for that price.

Could only get the pram in boot of the 106 when Meg came along . Px'd it for a 3 year old Saab 900...... huge boot . Personally I do not think the clio has a chav image . Saxo vtr/vts and 106 Quicksilver/106 Gti yes ....... Apparantly 2nd hand car dealers fit roll cages so the chavs dont kill themselves when they roll em. At least you know by owning your Clio that it is not a car that every estate agent in the country has had sitting outside the branch ie Mini.

N. The Trophys seem to have settled around the £5.5k mark from what I've read. So for a grand you're just getting better build quality and a Mini badge, they are surprisingly similar to drive - plenty of feedback through the steering and feel very well planted. The 182 engine has variable cam timing, so you have to rev it a bit harder to get it moving, that's probably the main difference. I've just been to a Cliosport club meeting in Bristol, 35 cars and only one chav in sight! Good fun. You should all sell your Minis and buy a hot hatch instead hahahaha.

Looking forward to actually working on it this weekend, well Monday anyway. I'll be hopefully turning down the hi-los to a better length. I plan to take it racing in Germany, just for one round of the British Car Trophy with Gerald and others from Swiftune / KAD.
So rather than going on holiday next year that'll be my goal.

It's about the same as a full trackday believe it or not. Plus the price of getting there, so about the price of a holiday
