this orrible injected piece of crap has finally had the last word . We all know that the injected cars seem to have the weakest gearboxes ........ well its true. The car has been wandering a bit under acceleration and deceleration , the suspension bush's were shot to bits as were the subframe rubbers . So I bought all the bits to sort it . Only got round to doing one side of the front suspension before castle combe . It still wandered around a bit , put that down to not replacing the bush's on the other side . However......... On my way to work this morning around the back roads of Telscombe Cliffs I turned a corner at low speed and felt the steering tighten up , carried on 50 yards to the next turn and it did it again , straightened up got to 25mph on a straight bit and the diff threw its pin out the side of the gearbox . So there I was broken down in a big pool of oil . ;D wanted 3.1 diff .

That makes me wonder about Matilda, she's got the same symptoms of dancing around the road, the diff's not failed yet. But it may be worth doing just in case Bad luck Dave

Not had a good look at this yet , think its come out of the top of the diff casing. thinking what to do about this prob . If its just nadgered the diff and housing do i replace both in the old 80k gearbox that is already a bit clanky changing gear or replace it . I Have got 2 Metro gearboxes that I know are 100% ok as they were both under engines that had been in mk1.One is under 40k The only prob is the 3.4 diffs but as Alex is having the car is it really going to matter anyway plus its on 12's not 10's which helps . May help the performance to. Not worried about cruising the motorways at 80 . or Si has a used spi box ,

If you want I could bring the spi box with me to Jim & Shirley's Rampage? Let me know if you want to have a look.

Worked out courtesy of keith calver that a 3.4 diff on 145/70/12's will mean the car will be running at 4200rpm at 70mph , compared to 3800 rpm at 70mph with the current 3.1 difff that the SPi's should have .
Got 2 boxes , with 3.4's . One 36thousand the other 70thousand , both had been used in mk1 and gave good service . Need to decide which to use . Cannot afford a rebuild but i know they are both ok . The low mileage is still bolted to the 998 i took out of mk1 in the spring . The higher mileage one is not bolted to a engine . Bearing in mind what the Sidewalk has been like i am thinking i should save the low mileage box for a better car .

would it be easyer to buy the hardware and build it into the 70k box ? so get 3:1 stuff and put it in the 70k box then alex wont be tapping you for as much fuel !! lol

Sure it would be easier to buy it, but only if you have the spare cash to do it. I dont.

Blimey........ You will need it for Josie, thats why i have not been to collect it. I will stick the 3.4 in the thing. Now lacking the motivation to do it I hate bloody cars.

Right , getting this piece of injection crap back on the road . Engine is on its way out of the car for a replacement gearbox .
Needs a bit of welding again , this time behind the offside front top shock mount bracket , the ponits where the fron panel joins the iner wings and on the front panel itself .
Rest of shell solid .
see whathappens.
