Dave, could you answer a question for me? Does the term "supercharge" refer to a performance part or just the cost?

Going to more period brakes is a good idea.
With your stuido two on the way I agree about not playing with the engine. Uping the power only reduces the life of the engine and as you say its old hat now. I've missed the boat, even though I started my project blower end of 2006
Supercharge refers to fuel/air charge and getting more in the engine to burn, a turbo is really a supercharger is practice. For your money you do get a greater power increase over other bolt on tuning.

Did want a charger when first put car on road , they had just started to appear in Minis back then but cost was to much even for a warm 1275 at the time . Thats why it took me 3 years to even put the 1340 in and thats still a budget engine I could not really afford . Interest in hot A series for me has gone , want something I can get in, drive to shows and know it will get me back. The mildly tuned 1340 in mk1 does just what i want , faster than a 1275 , now reliable and as I found out it will get me to Castle Combe in Wiltshire and back including 2 sessions on the track with no probs . Looking forward to Europe or Newquay in it next year .

as you may have read in Darrens POST regarding roger welcome home run i have had a incident with the mk1 and a bmw driven by mister magoo on red bull .
Thankfully i think its not major . cv joint knackered tyre blown out tracking out damaged rim .
Am replacing tyre , cv joint and going to refurb the kerbed rim and put it in the spare instead of the standard steel which was never going to be of any use because I had no wheel nuts in the boot for it and it does not fit over the Minisport calipers anyway lol . Found that out when I wanted to replace the punctured one at the weekend .......... doh , lol ;D Got the new rim and tyre on order .

Nearly had a nasty accident today but luckily i was going very slow and avoided it just . Onway to work down the back roads i turned right slowly and the steering clonked i straightened up and the steering wheel was even more out of the straight ahead than it was before then as i corrected the steering again nothing happened . I tried to turn left and it went straight on I was yards from work so got it there at walking pace . Had a good look at lunch , removed the steering column and found all the splines up the inside of it where it goes over the steering rack pinion were all missing . The pinch bolt was still done up , not mega tight but done up enough . What could have happened if i was bombing down the country lanes as i do and that lot let go does not bare thinking about . Could have been a nasty accident . The worrying thing is I had no warning . It just went . Very strange . Used work van to pick up spare column from home and plonked that on at lunch . Now got a big old mark 1 wheel on it untill i transfer the good stuff from the old column over

i had a couple of near misses thanks to others stupidity before i hit the kerb due to that bmw . i was not feeling lucky in it that day . Although that may have been a blessing because if i did not have the incident with the bmw that put the car out of action the day before darrens run knowing how far i have been since then i reckon the steering would have gone between seaford and eastbourne on the way to rogers run .

Am taking it down to Arrow tyres in Newhaven Thursday morning and leaving it with them to get there lazer alignment gear on it to find out how far the dink with the kerb ( coutesy of the fatty chav in the BMW) has put everything out.
Also when the car was first built and the 4 wheel alignment was done one setting was purposly set slightly out of limits due to the wheel rubbing the front panel on full lock if set correctly . Arrows are going to set it all up within limits and on Monday Tex at Fairlight Coachworks will be cutting back and re-forming the affected area of the front panel so the tyre does not rub .
He has to make sure it all looks factory and still weld the lip back on so the chrome seam strip fits on.
After that it will need a really good clean cos it looks awfull .
Also got a few niggles to sort out and find the cd changer and head unit as I will be going to Cornwall in it this year . The noise from car alone could be a bit tiring otherwise. Have got Newton Commercial bulkhead and bonnet soundproofing kit somewhere i must get round to putting in .

why a cd changer , why not a stereo which you can plug a mp3 player into. then you will not have to wire in a changer or hide it somewhere in the car
ask steven he maybe able you source something.
its just an idea as thats what i do in my car

Yeh not worth getting a CD changer, get yourself a decent head unit (Alpine) with AUX port either on the front or rear of the head unit. All depends on how much of your music is on CD's or if you have an iPod or other MP3 device. I personally wouldn't want to put a modern CD player in a MK1 - dont think it would look right and seeing as its a show standard car. You might look abit stupid but could just listen to a portable MP3 player on the way down to cornwall!! Ant
