had to put a new manifold on the mk1 last week . bearing in mind the car has only done 4000 miles since going back on the road i was not impressed .
the trouble stems from the heat wrap i put round it . it works a treat , you dont bun yourself on the hot manifold but something in the heat wrap eats the metal away . the manifold broke into 2 pieces and the other joins were split .
do not fit heat wrap to mini manifolds . will try and get a picture posted

got some jobs to do in September ready for Castle Combe .
Its due a service . Got all bits in stock so hopefully will not cost me . Genuine filters and a tin of Duckhams 20/50 . Needs valve clearance adjusting . Grease the nips and I may adjust the shocks a bit ready for CC . Hopefully it will be dry or i will need to soften them up a bit if it rains when i get there .

Blimey , not posted on here since August . Castle Combe went well , shame the speedo cable broke 100 yards before the variable speed limit roadworks on the m4 in the fog on way to Castle Combe . I replaced that this morning , went to work a hour early to do it . I reckon the manifold burns I recieved will be healed up by Riv Run Sorted a few nagging things out like dropped doors , rattles , swivel adjustment and exhaust fumes in car . Cured the fumes with clear silicone on a few bungs and poppy packing wedged in end of rear parcel shelf gaps where you usually find a strip of sponge . Remember my car is stripped out inside . Had another front tyre blow out on monday , not fun at about 70 I guess in outside lane of A27 . Yet another wrecked tyre . Pulled it over safely tho. YOKOHAMA have the 165/70/10 008's on back order as do most of the suppliers , Huddersfield , minispares , Minisport and several of my local suppliers are out of stock to. Had to get one from MINISPEED It took 3 calls before I got to speak to someone who did not cut me off . Not my favourite place and up till now I never purchased stuff from them other than at shows where I can see what I am buying . Like the chinese oil pump they had for sale at SMD last year . I said no thanks to that one . Any wayit should be ready for Riv Run and only got until friday to do it as I am away until the day before we leave for Cornwall.

Them yokos have been on back order since last september. I think I bought the last reasonably priced set in the county at SMD's 08 (eaven though they were £10 more because of high demand). Still got 2 in the shed to fit for the MOT. N

day before l2b I thought I had better get the MK1 out of the garage ready for the early start on the sunday . The battery was dead , put the jump pack on but after a couuple of goes on the starter button there was nothing . Ignition light was bright but with finger pushing down on starter button it dimmed and no starter . Checked i had feed to starter switch , all ok , checked other side of switch for feed when starter button pushed down but there was nothing . Ok , a duff switch I thought . So to test I by passed the starter switch all together and checked battery voltage at starter . Still nothing . So I new the main live cable from battery to the starter button was ok as I had battery voltage at the switch end. I then removed the main cable between the switch and starter . I found it was jammed between the sump guard and subframe .
Once off it was obvious it was burnt out . I guess that it was due to either that big jump I did on the old gits run 2 years ago when I crushed the sump guard cos the landing was so heavy or it was the grounding at Riv Run that bent the gearchange . The outer shieving had rubbed threw and the wire was earthing out on the subframe and sump guard. Repaired it and tested all ok .
