yeah I missed the minisport deal, my boss got in there and ordered some for his sprite... I've been watching a few fiesta conversions go on ebay, but some went for mega money!
I've got a bit of savings so I might just splash out and buy the brakes... then i'll sort out the fitment with the arches so it tucks nicely and get all the geometry set.
Have you got a thread for the mayfair?

I am all up for converting and modifying but as a qualified mechanic I would stay away from the Fiesta conversion . Fine if you know they have been done well by a engineer but just buying them off ebay could be a bit unknown . Brakes are your lifeline . Remember no brakes, no stopping . I am sure some new 'S' brakes will turn up at good price . Re-building old ones could not really work out much cheaper . However, Minispares sell there 12 to 10 conversion and it only costs about tenner or so more than minisports. Minispares sell there own version of the'S' caliper which obviously makes that 12 to 10 kit cheaper than the one that uses the genuine S caliper . Aim for that . Monkeyjims Mayfair is the thread . No suspension stuff on it yet though .. Dave

Yeah that was my concern with them, i think im going to hold off getting a 2nd car for a while, and buy myself a bigger toolbox, brakes and some other bits.
Just saw the thread, looks like a bit of a bargin that!

Maybe not such a bargain ......when I put the headgasket on water leaked out from it under number 4 spark plug . I am 100% sure head is straight and believe the block to be too. Got a proper copper payen head gasket coming tuesday so hopefully all will be ok. .

Ahh perhaps not then. have you had something thats machined flat (such as an engineers rule) on the block/head to see if it is flat?

Head machine flat and checked. Had a engineers straight edge on the block too , admittedly it was difficult to get it on the block as it was so long but i reckon its flat. Hope its just a crap head gasket . Keith Calver reckons only fit a payen or genuine as the rest are crap and can leak. I am hoping that is the case.

I have always used Payens either from local factor or Minispares . This time I used a british gaskets gasket , thought that would be ok as I have no trouble with them on customers cars but I am not sure whether thats causing the leak or not . I got repeatedly let down locally with payen so am now waiting for the payen from minispares . That should be here but again has not turned up Anyway , we are hijacking project lows thread here , enough of the Mayfair.

No real progress, took the head off the 1275 engine, mainly as elliot wanted to borrow it, but what a pain in the a** that was, tthe centre headstud was siezed in the head! no ammount of wiggling would get it off, tried double nutting the stud to try and get it out, which failed miserably, even tried shocking it (with a copper mallet) nothing..... in the end had to get some molegrips and apply heat to the stud to get it out!... however, the engine seems to look ok! will inspect the bores and turn it over when im back at work on monday, but looks promising for an engine in unknown condition. On the road.Also.. whilst im here, i paid up to be a member however on the forum it dosent say i have
