The price difference all depends on the quality of the build of them (as with all mini bits) some have some more superior types of bearings in them , they can be made from different types of metals too , if you like bling they even do them in many diferent colours annodised alloy , billet alloy , machine steel you name it you can have it at a price . The key issue regardless of its looks and price is reliability ,and of course the extended valve open times owing to the extra distance they make them open which brings to mind another issue make sure you have the correct clearence from the top of piston reach and head distance when TDC and fully open valve ,it has been known for people to put these on and have a bit of a bang with interference when the two meet !!! = one knackered engine ,valve push rods and valve train.

I got a set of 1.5 high lift roller tip rockers with a modded head on my cooper and get 83.5Bhp. I picked them up off ebay for £130 and my head was £120 also from ebay. Think they are a minispares model but not complete sure on that, I got them cheap anyway ;D! My cooper was at 65Bhp before the head and rockers change so would say its a nice little mod to do for not a huge amount of money ! Ant

the most important thing to look out for is coil binding of the valve springs, minispares have a colour code for there rollers 1:1 or 1:5. titan rollers any colour you want to pay for. also look out for rollers clipping rockerbox alloy metro type gives best clearance but you may still have to grind the corners a bit. i have 3 sets here if you are interested

I had a look at a second hand set over at Geralds last on that rolling road day but decided to leave them where they were as they had too much play between the rockers and the shaft. what condition are the sets you have in N

Neil, I put forged (non-roller) 1.5:1 rockers on my Tahiti with my modded head. I had no prob's with any clearances and the whole set up works a treat. I'm sure roller tips are better if you don't mind spending the £. One thing to be aware of though, it's generally accepted that you will get increased cam lobe wear (and if you have coil bound valve springs that will be VERY rapid!). Regular oil changes a must! M.

Hi Martin, How much were the non roller version Can you still get them new Any recomended manufacturer Sounds like these might suite my needs better. Also what are coil bound valve springs is that the same as double valve springs (one inside the other) would that increase the cam wear quicker Still not made my mind up on this I want to tune the pickup just that little bit more N

Hi Neil. My forged set came from Moss. Cost £123 + VAT just over a year ago. Coil binding happens when you compress a spring so far that the coils actually come together, so the spring actually becomes a solid tube. It can happen if you use a set of rockers or a high lift cam (or worse still, both) that try to open the valves so much that they over-compress the springs. That's why it's just about the quickest way to knock a cam out. Good luck. M.
