i have been told i should start a diary on my new mini 'uncle harold' (ant hehehe ;D) infact ordered so here goes:
just by sheer fate, i was approached by a lady called valerie, her husband david & their friend at magnificent motors. i couldnt believe my ears when she said to me 'do i know anyone who wants a 1959 morris mini minor' 'i want shot of it, its in the way'
looking back i think i showed a little too much enthusiasm, the words me me, come to mind & putting my hand up like i was back at school ;D
we went to see them in croydon on the monday & i saw him as i walked up the drive & that was that, bought him home on the following saturday!
valeries uncle harold owned the mini from new 5.1.1960, him & his wife had no children so valerie spent alot of time with them when she was young. around 25yrs later he had to give up driving & gave the car to valerie but she didnt like driving it so they just kept the car in their garage, only driving it around the block to their new home about 10yrs ago!
david was going to start work on the car recently but is unfortunately very ill with cancer so unable to continue, he was quite poorly on the day we picked up harold which was very sad as he wanted to see us off but we are going to keep in contact through phonecalls & emails so they can watch our progress. i have not only gained a lovely old mini but gained some great friends too, thank you val & david x
