The diff blow up gave me a good excuse to start the long awaited freshen-up, I had all the panels in stock already and engine being out gives me much better access. A bit more welding is required than I hoped, the drivers side wing had already been replaced at some point in the car's life, at the same time the drivers side scuttle end had received some attention.. The flange along the top of the inner wing on the drivers side needs remaking too, it is a bit corroded. Passenger side appears to be all sound, It was the original front wing on that side. A panels on both sides will probably stay where they are, just some very minor surface rust on one side.

ooh errr . Had rot in studio 2 behind shock mounts , nice easy repair . Scuttle finally on . Is it worth not finally securing door skin on frame until 'A' panel and rear 1/4 is back on . With it tacked in situ that will allow you to adjust the gaps and the door in the aperture . Had a look down in my companion boxes last week on mk1 . Area around rear frame mount captive nuts is perfect on both sides with just light surface rusting on the bottom of companion box which is slightly differant in my case being a early shell but it is still the sill. Easier to repair in there I guess without the rear 1/4 on .
Bring on that mk1 rebuild Paul.

Shock mounts repaired now, it's a real hidden rot spot there. The front end is all solid now, just waiting for wings and front panel to be fitted. The passenger side rear quarter had a tiny hole that has been repaired now, it was a no-brainer to remove the driver's side quarter panel for that repair, it had been dinged there before my ownership and was full of filler and as you say makes the repair work much easier (possible!). It's a shame though, I'm going to have to replace the original sill which has survived on the car until now. The heelboard is still in perfect condition, I have removed the (non-genuine) rear subframe for a mid-spruce up whilst working on the back end of the car. The workshop has also had a bit of attention with added lighting and sockets!
