Finally got hold of a 6 point rollcage at a sensible price (cheers Dean ) and today I took it to shot blasters . Will prime it when it comes back. It will need the rear legs modifying to pick up subframe tower mounts and extra tubing added .
Got engine and frame at work , having the new gearbox mounts put in correct position for bigger MGF 1800 gearbox tomorrow.

Right then .
Here we go .
This project is back on . Although the rear engine 140hp K series is a non start due to the fact I need 4 seats now . However I still have the K series frame and the engine plus ancillaries so who knows where that could go in the future maybe in the front off this but not keen as the shell and paint is perfect and it will need the front cuttting about to get the K series in . I am really thinking that a Mini with a modern engine is still the way to go , I realise you wont all agree on that but thats what I am doing . I dont want the busy A series in there but a modern unstressed motor that has a 5 speed box attatched and will cruise at 70 effortlessly . My interior is planned , exterior is completely finished apart from external trim , brakes have been bought and just need fitting , wheels sorted . That leaves spec of suspension . This will most likely be a Minispares kit and decide whether to use k series or not ....... Will make a start during this week . ;D

Thing is I know have a new bike , ok its only a 600 but it will still do 60mph in 4 seconds and mid range acceleration is way more than a car so there is really no point in my eyes sticking a big powerfull engine in a mini , I dont need it , got the bike . So looking at a modern reliable everyday engine that will fit .

Started some painting of suspension and brake componants during the week . I have beeen putting primed componants in the oven at work to be sprayed with whatever colour is left in the spray gun after doing a car. No point wasting paint is there and the car in there gets baked anyway .
I have a new set of lowered front top shock mounting brackets , new disc hubs , 'S' discs, calipers and drive flanges .
The brackets and drive flanges are done , discs and hubs in primer .
A year or so ago I put the adjustable tie rods and lower arms in to be done so that only leaves the steering arms and rack of the front end suspension/steering to paint and they are still on the car at the moment .
Gettting ito the project now , got enthusiasm . ;D ;D

This project has been on and off for the past 4 years . Here is a re-cap of some of what's been going on . Here is my Studio 2 I bought this car in 2000 and paid £600 . It was standard when I got it .It needed new door skins and 'A' panels . The wings were trimmed and Sports Pack arches and 6x13 Ultralites were fitted . When finished I then gave it to my partner and she used it to drive all round East Sussex during her Midwifery training. Whe she qualified she bought herself a new car and gave me back the Mini . By September 05 the MOT was due and it was obvious that it would not pass due to floor corrosion and subframe corrosion . So it came off the road and the slow process of rebuilding and modifying it further began. As you can see by the pictures it has had new inner and outer sills , floor repairs and although not shown the rear valance has been replaced and the boot floor repaired plus a new subframe that was fitted under my Pick up has been donated to the cause . The front and rear arches have also had metal removed as has the front bulkhead in the engine bay . The roof seam has also been modified , the gaps in the seam that are visible after the black roof seam cover strip has been removed have been welded up . Therefore I do not need a cover strip round the roof seam .

Jim is now 9 , so yes a lot younger then . Tex will only want to do final prep , prime and top coat I reckon . Best thing to do is call him and have a chat . I am afraid you may have to trailor it to him to get his opinion and price . Think there web site is www.fairlightcoachworks.co.uk , or just do a search for Fairlight Coachworks in Peacehaven . They have a small gallery of there customers cars on there , most of them have been the subject of magazine features , that includes a certain blue mk1 Mini . ;D

I have been a bit busy but not managed a great deal again . Front subframe is out and the steering rack is off .
I have painted new : S drive flanges S disc centres S calipers Disc hubs Long track rod ends ( for lowered cars ) Shock absorber top mount brackets (for lowered cars) Rose joints for the lower arms and tie rods , both pairs of arms and rods had been painted a year or so ago .
I have also Cleaned out, re-greased and fitted new rack boots to the old steering rack before painting rack and its fixing U bolts . Painted the front subframe top tower bolts.
I bought a set of alloy rear subframe mounts and subframe bush set , light blue Rover carpet mat set and a set of door handles whilst at Castle Combe .
Pictures when I have time will follow
