new Spi Mpi short engines and carpets

I went to see Nick Paddy at PlayMini near Crawley friday afternoon. He has been around the Mini scene for some time now . Hes a really friendly chap.

Amongst other stuff new and used Nick is selling new genuine one piece late Mini carpets at £50 . Fitted as standard from about P reg on, they come with the soundproofing sewn to the floor pan sections. . As stated they are one piece , the sill , wheel arch and crossmember sections are moulded into the carpet .
I bought the last light blue one but he still has dark red , dark blue and green ones in stock .
Ignoring the crap carpets for sale at stalls on the ground at London To Brighton a quality set from Newton Commercial or Somerford will set you back more than that .

Will be fitting it in my 1990 Studio 2 sometime over the weekend. . The late cars had a fuse box and ecu mounted inside the car and the carpet moulded to accomodate them . Will let you know how the retro fit into a earlier car goes.

He also has new factory short engines for MPi and SPi @£700.

I did mention EDMC. So if you phone up mention the club, you never know.

PlayMini are now in the old wood and picket building next to faygate station . Nick took the unit over cos wp were not paying him the rent alledgedly.

update on the carpet fitting .

The drivers side front wheel arch has a cut out about 3 or 4 inch square in the top right of the front wheel arch section . This is where the MPi fuse box would be situated .
So to sum up the 1 piece carpet will not fit without a bit of additional fiddling , see below.

This cut out in the carpet will be covered by those front speaker pods available from people like custom consoles. I was going to buy a pair of those anyway but since realising the wiring loom is in such a dier state I will most likely buy a new loom modified to use the internal fuse box amongst other things . Its had 2 engine bay mounted fuse boxes in 5 years.

How simple would this be for a novice to fit? mine is a 96/p mini with the internal fuse box and I would like the1 piece carpet, just wondering whether I would be able to fit it myself?

you should have no problem fitting it your self , a degree of dismantling is required tin order to complete the job . you will have to remove the seats and brackets and seatbelt anchorages and anything else thats in the way of the carpet and then fit carpet not forgetting to remove the door rubbers so that they can be fitted afterwards over the top of the carpet edges in the door appartures .

Thats right W&P used to be in on the left the revoloution in the middle the play mini on the right byt W&P moved out about a year ago... dunno why by its a shame as it was nice to have a decent supplier of quality kit so close. dunno what happend to revoloution though

Funny you sad that, there is a tissue tucked in either side of the dash/windscreen.... for water leaks. ;D

Yeah, I called this morning. They have had them for a couple of years, they still have at least 30No is red,black and another colour. Just not the colour green, thats in my Mini!!!
