Myj is really playing up! When I first start her up she fires into action but, as soon as I hit the biting point to pull away, the engine grinds to a halt, as if there's no power. When I eventually get going, it cuts out at lights, zebra crossings, slowing down for corners etc. I know how to use the manual choke but it doesn't seem to matter whether it's in or out. After about half an hour of driving, it's ok. Any ideas? Hubby's changed the plugs.

Mine did a similar thing a while back, turned out the carb just needed setting up again, if it wasn't the fact it settled down when warm it sounds like your loosing compression, possibly a head gasket on the way out?

I improves once I've been driving for about half an hour, but isn't brilliant. It's also backfiring badly as well, quite embarassing!
I've booked it into Seaside Garage for a look on Wednesday.

sounds as if it's over fueling pretty badly, mine constantly runs reall rich, backfires a lot and if you sit around 4000rpm in 4th it will bog down and cut out where it's flooding itself! this is due to the electric pump running too much psi, but i actually quite like all the pops and bangs it makes, it also spits flames a lot!! all very immature i know but mini's are ment to be fun!!
Lean it right off on the carb and slowly bring it back down

to set your carb right , twist your mixture screw up to the top then down 11 flats just sort of 2 turns that you be around about right adjust idle and check timing use it as a base
