There is some rust around the windscreen and need to sort it out! so the question is!! Can you get repair parts or will i need to replace the whole surround? the whole surround would be quite a job!!

All depends on where it is on the windscreen surrounding and what the extent of it (whether just surface rust or completely rot)!! If its at the corners, i know you can get replacement corner panels for about £15 and whole new lower panel which is about £80 odd if really bad. Those prices were from Mini Spares website. My mini had a great big dirty hole about middle of the lower panel going all the way through but if you know a decent body worker, they can make it look new again with filler ;D!! Ant

My main rust problem is on the sides! Filler is a temp solution, as the rust would come back. the main reason i am looking into it now is that on the way to work a stone hit the windscreen and i dont think i am going to be able to get it repaired!! So if i am taking out the windscreen then it could be worth doing the rust, new rubber etc.

Not too sure on whether you can get replacement panels for those bits or not !! Is the rust completely gone through which has made holes or just surface!?! Ant

Would apply has gone all the way through then !! If it me i would get a electric sander and clean it all up and then get some anti-rust agent on the area which has the rust, once done that then use filler and sand back again then prime and re-spray. Or you cud always cut the rust out and re-weld an new piece of metal in. All depends how much you want to do really and money. Ant

Where i got my bodywork done in silverhill (hastings) which i was very pleased with ;D and a couple of other club members have used him for mini bodywork also. Cant remember what the place is called but its in Duke Road and hes called Adrian - 01424 443641. Probably best to take your mini to him so he can give you a better quote instead just over the phone. i know a few people who cut panels out of scrap minis, it will be the right fit plus you get the panel you want and you may even get it for free as they are scraping the car
its worth a try

Hi Dean, if you could ask then it would be a great help. If you could ask if they have both sides as one patch of rust is low on one side and high on the other.
Let us know if you have any joy.

hi i have been doing pannel replacement for some years now , the replacement of scuttle pannels is not something someone should take lightly , to do this job properly both wings need to be removed thus exposing potential other problems whuch need to be addressed at the time ie, scuttle closure pannels and inner wings , door filch pannels and a pannels .# when the scuttle is removed it weakens the posture of the car so it must be done using adequate support of the front subframe and engine and the rest of the car as the whole shell becomes "live" (flexable) so when the scuttle is welded back on the whole geometry of the wings front pannel and door alighnment can all be affected , if you would like to discuss the job give me a shout ive got some pictures of my cooper when i did it . incidentally the part that usually rusts under the rubber consists of three layers of pannel 1)the bulkhead 2)the inner window ledge 3) the scuttle as you can appreciate this part takes a fair amount of time separating the scuttle from the spotwelded three layers then you have the jointing on the pillars for the new pannel this takes a degree of skill cutting and ,matching up with the new pannel and of course when all done wings etc replaced and then repainted
the option of bodging up rust is false economy as after a relatively small amount of time the rust comes back becuase you wouldnt of removed the problem just covered it up , bare in mind metal pannels have two sides if its rusty or buds are appearing its sure as sh1t its rusty on the other side where you cant get at it garanteed !! the most annoying thing i have seen at most "commercial " outfits is they repalce pannels but never or very rarely paint up the inside of the work so when welded it becomes rusty inside almost immediately thus its only time before you see the tell tale signs after a couple of years . hope this helps with your quest regards shawn @ minihaven
