i had the same problem. water was filling up in my sills and coming through the holes in the inner sills under the door frame
i found a small hole under the hinges in the bottom corner behind the A panel, it fill up when the water runs off the roof i took my door off as it helps to get to the area got a wire brush on a drill cleaned it up, welded it up a bit and used seam sealer to total seal it up, it helps untill one day i renew my A panel to do it properly
it could be a hole under the bottom of the windscreen dripping onto the inside of the bulk head and running down to the floor pan
or door seals
or badly fitted doors
or window seals
or someone playing a joke and tipping a bottle of water on the floor

as dean says, it could come from anywhere, you need someone to sit in the car really while you do your thing with a watering can

yeah all the above , it would help if before you try remove all your carpets and seats and rear doorcards , it could also be coming from your boot as it can get thru there at the rear bulkhead but it will be difficault to see without removing the interior carpets and seats and stuff .

Thanks guys for the great advise ive found it after hours of searching and loads of water. It was comming from the brake pedal arm where it goes through the bulk head to join the master cylinder. Is it an easy job to remove the master cylinder mounting bracket??

Well done mate! Stopping water leaks ASAP will save you a lot of welding for the next MOT and keep the car alive for longer The master and clutch cylinder has a gasket both sides of the mounting plate. its a bit of a mission to remove it all just to put on a gasket, but it will be worth it. A bodge would be to loosen all the nuts, lift up the cylinder assemblies and skirt in some sealant. The right way to do it is disconnect the pedals, undo the cylinders nuts and carefully lift to one side the cylinders, clean everything and remove the mounting plate. Carefully, not to brake you brake lines, they'll bend to a certain extent. Then clean, rust treat, repaint and place on your new gaskets. On reassembly remember one thing, the brakes are the most important thing on the car, double check everything!!! Even get someone else to check before and after work to ensure its all back in place correctly. 70mph approaching a junction and to have a brake failure should be a suitable incentive to do the job right Just take your time Have fun ;D
