hi guys just a quick question on adjusting the brake light switch (the lights only come on when the brake pedal is floored). in the haynes manual it says that it could be either a hydraulic switch mounted behind the flywheel or something... or an elictrial switch mounted above the brake pedal.... anyone know which i would have on a 1990 998cc mayfair also anyone got any tips on doing it? cheers, chris

I would have thought you have the switch up at the top of the brake pedal .

hi guys. found the switch and as you said it is abouve the brake pedal. only thing is that there is a massive heater pipe (i think) infront of it! i have tried taking the pipe off by the wheel arch and that dosent really help as i cant get it past the steering column. i cant see how to take it off the other end at the heater unit. anyone got any advice on this? chris

The corrugated black plastic pipe from the right wheel arch to the heater is the ducting for cold air into the heater. Just yank it off. There may be some metal grip's but I've only seen these on late models.

simon you donut ;D, it's the pipe inside the car, the one that goes from the heater outlet to the demister vent. anyway chris, it should just yank off too...

Donut maker! The air comes in from the right wheel arch into the heater, this pipe obsures the brake light switch. The pipe routes between the switch and the steering coloumn and can be difficult to remove and fit without knocking the switch in question. The feed from the heater to the windscreen demisting vent travels directly up and should not be in the way to access the switch. I would not remove this one from the top as is a dog to refit if you have anthing other than a central speedo. Just pull it off. If all else fails get a hammer to it and buy a new one. ;D

bodgers !!!!!!!!!!!hammer ? gaff tape ? , it should pull off first one end then with the free end pull thru and ease it thru with your other hand dead easy , do the oposit when reassembling but take care not to knock the connections off the brake switch in the process.

cheers for all the replies guys. havnt had time to get onto the net in ages so only just got them. think my best bet is to just yank it off and see what happens. atm the lights work but come on a bit late so its only minor adjustment that is needed. thanks, chris
