blimey rob trying to start a fire ?? make sure you disconnect the battery b4 wire wooling the stalk contacts as they are permanantly live !!. depending what age the car is it may have the dim pak fitted for the haedlamps to become sides when the ingnition is turned off . alternatively another well loved fault is the barrel connectors under the slam panel get full of cr*p and become intermittent if they have been distrubed some time in their life before, usually the earth one which has all the earths connected in the same place then goes thru the loom to the inner wing next to the screen wash bottle where its terminated to an eyelet and is screwed or bolted to the web on the inner wing.
