Piece of Pee Half the wiring wont be used ,Study wiring diagram with unit and decide if you are fitting 2 or 4 speakers. All that is needed is perm live, switched live ,earth and then speaker wires.+ arial

what year is your car? if it was fitted with a h/u as standard you will already have a plug in the car which is used to connect together the cables Jim mentioned. Pre-1993 you will have to purchase an ISO adapter lead, £13.50 from ur local halfords/autoleads stockist. This will enable you to connect a standard ISO plug to the Rover plug as it is a different shape. Post 1993 the unit should plug staright in as it will already be fitted with a standard ISO plug.
If there is no plug watsoever then you will need to attempt what is known as a hard wire fit. This involves running a permanent live from a power source. this will need to be fused somewhere along the line to prevent meltdown. You will also need to install a cable to the ignition switch so that it turns on when the key is turned. An earth is also required. REMEMBER TO DISCONNECT THE EARTH LEAD ON THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANYTHING!
If you are really unsure of how to do it then the simple answer is dont do it, pop down to your local auto electricians/ audio shop who are likely to charge around the £40 mark.
See p93 of MiniWorld magazine May or the June isssue for help on wiring an amp and speakers.
anymore audio fit/product questions let me know

oh, forgot to mention that many people hardwire in h/u s using a manufacturer specific plug as that which would have come with ur sony. This would also be considered as a hardwire fit as this plug would need to be cut off and replaced with an ISO lead. It is always advisable to fit an ISO plug rather than the specific Sony/alpine/pioneer etc etc plug as you might want to fit a different unit at a later date.

cheers for your help guys.
bit stuck though, my car is 1990 and has no plug. well it does have some sort of plug but it appears to only have speaker inputs into it?? all pretty confusing. looks like a hard wire job.
tried to put a pic in of it but can't figure out how to! lol.
i'll email one to stephen. hopefully you can advise me exactly what to do once you can see what i have.
thanks, chris
