hi all at the moment im building a 1275 its a metro block with metro gearbox with cnetral oil pickup with a cooper s head and twin 1 1/4 carbs. i was thinking whilst iv got it in peices insted of using the standard verto clutch and flywheel (which came with the block) i was thinking of putting a ultra light flywheel and orange diaphram and clutch plate on in its sted. what are the pros and cons of the ultra light flywheel all i know is that it will be quicker on acceleration. but will i have ideling issues and starting issues?
thanks matt

just like you said, it will excelerate quicker but have a bad/ rough idle.with a up rated cam
if you are going for big power and going to drive hard most of the time it best to go for an uprated clutch diaphram and clutch plate
i have got a ultra light flywheel , and using a sw5 cam, i have been told that it would be fine,
there is always pros and cons when it comes to tuning,
its down to personal choice.

The only thing a verto clutch is good for is a door stop, useless pieces of poo,a ligtweight flywheel will be fine on any engine it only becomes an issue on longer duration cams. You will find the compression ratio will cause you more worries then the flywheel.Anything under 75 hp will be ok on a standard clutch. All a heavy pressure plate does is put undue stress on the thrust washers in the crank,so dont fit it if its not needed. cheers k1
