Now - a topic for discussion.
I've been led to belive an auto engine block cannot be swapped over onto a manual box. Apparently because of the oil ways.
I'm one for aquiring second hand knowledge but not one the belive it untill seen with my own eye's.
Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

As far as I know they cannot be swapped . Why you ask ? You found a low mileage auto? d

I'm looking at a low mileage 998 auto engine. The head is unleaded so will be worth it just for the head. But the gearbox is dead, just seems a shame to let the block go to waste. But the question remains... why are they not compatable. Guess I'll tell you all soon.

I've been led to belive an auto engine block cannot be swapped over onto a manual box. I have heard it can be done ;D Nobody lists a different crank between auto and manual, so a manual flywheel will fit an auto crank ;D The physical external size of the auto box is the same as the manual ;D Lots of work and hassle to do, but can be done ;D

yep ive done it , there is a couple of things you need to do the oilways and of course change the oli pump cos its a completely different animal other than that the process is well documented on"how to" i did it about 18 years ago cant remember a lot about it but reserch should be easyer with the net to hand .of course the flywheel needs changing , bear in mind its not easy removing the torque converter they tend to br tighter than the standard clutch flywheels

Well, first inspection... Oil filter into the block needs drilling, looks like the oil pump feeds the gearbox box, then the block..
Cheers Shawn, I'm going to resue the kent cam for the ducking and put in the block I got with Dave. He only let me take it on condition of getting a new oil pump, spider drive it is!
I'll be left with an auto half block so might as well have a play. ;D
