hi all, iv been offered a 1275 head with a set of twin carbs. iv heard of people who hav put 1275 head on 998 blocks and they are the same as an 1100, so are there any modifications that need to be don. do the water and oil ways line up. etc. thanks -matt-

'Pocketing' that is required to fit a 1275 head onto a 998. Basically cutting the block as the 1275 valves would bash theblock if this was not done. I think the 1100 had 'just' a longer stroke so assume pocketing would be the way forward.
The advantage of a 1275 head over a 998 head is the gas flow is much better, much much better! The machining would not be cheap/easy, so would reccomend a 998 stage 2/3 head to save the trouble.
The water ways are not a problem, it is with a 998 head on a 1275 block.

The other way being to machine the valve seats so that the valves do not come down so low. This means u dont need to take the engine out but it sounds tricky and probably expensive to get someone to do it. Reda an article online about Keith Calver doing this

morspeed will pocket a 998 block for £50. www.morspeed.co.uk and click on machining. He used to work for MED , there price will be slightly higher. www.med-engineering.co.uk Been speaking to Lee from MED recently , he is very helpfull if you want to give him a call. I should think its money well spent. d
