diff bush

hi everyone

i brought a 4 pin diff at london to brighton this year. i built it up with new fibre washers and to the right toque setting and found that there was movement up and down, left and right on the output shafts

i have tried 3 different crown wheels and its all the same i even have 6 output shafts, but the problem is still there

i contacted ac dodd and he told me that the crown wheel has a worn bush.
he said you can replace them if the output shafts are not to worn(i have 6 to choose from)
there should be a gap of 0.001- 0.005 thou.

right

does anyone know where i can get the bushes from or how much.

or any where who supplies and machines it to the right size.

Or I've a spare 3.1 crown wheel and diff housing?

yes thats the one, i could not find them on the mini spares website.

no sorry i don't need a 3.1 diff. i have got 3 3.44 crown wheels just got to pick the best one

i found out that it has to be 0.001 -0.005 bigger than the output shaft

have you got the machine shop at home, do you do it yourself, are you good at it, i know a local machine shop who could do it. just have to weight it up.

hi when you say the diff output shafts are slopy is this after the new fibre washers,I always get the washers so that when torqued up the diff goes a little tight .
Also its the diff end casings that hold the output shafts in place and suported but only when the pot joint is in place.if you keep getting oil from the drive shaft seals this is a sure sign the bushes in the end covers a worn. cheers k1

no i have fitted new fibre washers, and torqued it up to the right setting and the diff is not tight, it run freely but the shalfs move. i have measures the bushes and the shalfts and the difference is to big. i am putting in a order to mini spares to get new bushes.
