You can use the clutch - Dave's old skool with a mk one, his clutch and mini's pre 1984 have an old mini clutch. The clutch slave cyclinder is mounted at the top(ish) of the drop gear housing, with a long clutch lever. Post 1984 mini, should all have a 'verto' clutch, which was also introduced with the metro. The verto slave cyclinder is mounted on the clutch bell housing, with a short 3" clutch level. As verto clutch's have been in mini's for 17years of production , most mini's are verto. So I would recycle your verto slave cyclinder (if you have one), bolt on and drive. (Remember to put the engine in first! ;D)

old school my arse...... Who says my mk1 is pre verto . My mk1 has a Metro engine and a verto clutch. ;D I converted my Mini van to Metro power with the verto clutch about the time you were leaving primary school for big school Simon . My first post , a reply to Matts, stated I wanted to keep things simple . Matt I think would openly admit to not being mechanically minded . So , to keep things simple , if you use all the clutch and operating system, flywheel plus starter of the engine you already have whether it be a Metro or Mini you are not going to start mixing up pre verto and verto bits together because they will not work. Did not say don't use the Metro clutch . D

He He been waiting for your reply Dave That young un must be blind or Daft .Only got to have one look under your bonnet to see its a verto clutch. Most minis are verto!!!!!!!!!!! What about the real ones built for 25yrs B4 they changed over ;D And they got proper CARBS insted of them injector thingys ;D And they dont have them EU ;D thingys that tell your mini not to go ;D The list could go on Anyway Matt good luck with engine change and verto clutch

The worst and most problematic part of modern cars is the electronics. The main dealers can only fix them cos they have the bits in the parts department to try . Oh Jim .....re : your 25 years . . About 4 million minis were pre verto , they made just over 5 million Minis altogether . So even by my old school maths I reckon most were pre verto . What you reckon ? d

Bl##dy old men,
My point is that most mini's about these days are recent ones, most early ones are in good homes or long rotted away. If a survey was done in the club, I've sure most would have a verto clutch (even Monkey Jim does!).
Yes the metro has a cable clutch. Yeah sorry, I must be getting old. Thats solved by a donor bell housing (Your old one if verto). I agree that pre-verto and verto parts can't be mixed. But if you have a post 1984 mini with a verto clutch, its saves hassle as you you wont have to swap over the clutch/flywheel.
If you have a pre 1984 mini, swap all the clutch/flywheel and bits from your old engine to new.

Has Matt got a clubman? Looking at his avatar its a bell nose. Not using you glassing you old bu##er? ;D Your wrong that I'm wrong. I am right, as you explain, that your right. Left? Alright? Sorry Matt, its easy, get the engines side by side. Play a game of spot the difference, swap those bits over, fit it in, drive off and enjoy. Buy Jim a drink and he could help you lift the engine out

I'm gonna swap for verto as my engine is pre verto. putting a standard MG metro lump in, it has 40k so hopefully should be pretty good. also planning on using the four pots and vented discs... I'm thinking a weekend will be long enough for me and my dad to convert both the engine and brakes.
