had no dealings with the bini yet . Althoug its a common car fault these days. When I was working for Skoda/vw we quite often had temp gauge senders go wrong. The car's gauge would read low when infact it was reading high on the VAG1552 vw fault code reader so they could overheat at a indicated normal running temperature. A faulty gauge sender alone would not make it overheat although who knows what is connected to what these days so there may be a link there.. firstly check out the fan works . Normally I would disconnect the fan wires , power the fan with a power probe to see if the fan works . if it does it must be the rad fan switch or wiring to it . Take it, the fuses are ok. care needs to be taken with modern car wiring , somethings just do not like a power probe and 12volt stuck up them .
if still no joy give a dealer a call , chandlers may say they have had no probs , and just be unhelpfull in which case give someone like minisport a call as they deal with the things and rally them . d

had dealings with thermostats that are part of the actual thermostat housing itself and the thermostat section of it breaks up. Also waterpumps are crap these days. instead of being all metal many have metal bodies and impellor shafts but the impellor itself which is the fan like bit that that pumps the water is made of PLASTIC and they fall to bits . had waterpump probs on 3 series style bmw, thermostat and the above waterpump problems on vw . The latest being on a new beetle that was giving similar problems to Dans bmw MINI.
YOU SORTED IT DAN ?

the car is now running fine, booked the mini in at chandlers, and they fitted a new rad, did not say why, but that was the prob, all i know is that it was free flowing you could feel the rad getting hot as warm water moved across it, and feel hot water at both pipes, maybe there is a sensor built in to the rad and thats why, i will try and ring and talk to someone there and see what they have to say.l
