Neil, See what u mean. Its good to see people still developing stuff for the A series but as we have discussed this, you will agree that the gearbox and overall reliability are the weakest links. The costs involved are also high. It does seem a shame to put a non A series in a Mini Pick up or Mark 1 I agree but when you could buy a complete and running donor 1600 or 2 litre twin cam Astra/Cavalier and the conversion subframe and related parts for the price of a professionaly modified A series engine (no box) a standard reliable modern engine developing 100+ hp with a five speed box starts to make sense.
U driven a Suzuki Wagon R ? Really revvy engine , will not give you Porsche performance but it is much faster than a 998, faster still in the lighter mini body. It has a tiny 5 speed box , will never break down or leak oil, plus it will fit in a mini. I have measurements.

Sound like you have made your mind up. Is the Suzki engine the same as the 1.3 16v in the swift GTi? that I have seen people fit? N

Oh, and another thought... Look at the post date, it was in Augustn that was before the september and october club meets. When I posted it you still were considering a fast a-series for the MK I N

neil it is not the gti engine. The wagon r engine is smaller. Can also be found in the suzuki alto. Think of all those mk 2 Micras out there with that reliable twin cam engine for sale for £500. They even came with a 1.4 80hp motor. Got measurements for mk1 single cam micra engines and twin cam mk2 micra engines.
As far as I am concerned I want a engine that is faster than a 1275, more reliable and capable of driving at motorway speeds easily. I cannot afford to spend £2k on a engine that is only capable of being faster than a 1275.
The t2 turbo was apparantly fitted in the rs turbo. Allspeed sell a frame for the rs turbo conversion.

yeah the escort rsturbo is a t2 and so is the reualt 5gt-t i have heard you can also use the newer garrett gt-15. also heard rumors about using a turbo from a diesal even though garrett say u cant but the parts number on a petrol turbo are the same a the desal ones. gt-15 turbos can also be found on smaller diesal engines.

Neil, a couple of sites for you. found this one months ago. www.rcdevelopments.com/gallery/madmicra.htmBet you all laughed when i mentioned Micra engines a few messages back.. This will stop you. Heres the 1.6 vauxhall mini site, the donor minis do not do the conversion any justice. However Allspeeds own demo mini featured on the site is well put topgether . www.1.6mini.co.ukHow about a mad indian turbo conversion for ya min, yes I have a turbo and wait for it ....intercooler from a 2002 Tata pick up. No actually dont bother , we scrapped the truck because it was not worth reparing the blown headgasket, stick to riding elephants they are more reliable. I have got the parts though. Dave

Mad A 1.3 16V Turbo Micra... With 200 (Estimated) BHP The guy who decided to do that must be mad. Sweet engine just a shame he chose to leave it in the orignal Micra. Put that engine in a mini... Now your talkin ;D N
