Hi all,
I'm currently in the Eastbourne area for a couple of months due to work and today my 1983 Austin Mini Mayfair decided to start playing up. I ended up driving back to my lodgings with the choke out to keep her running.
I suspect the problem is either a fuel blockage or carb related, but as my fuel filter is beneath the car I can't see anything without a pit or ramps.
Does anybody have any recommendations for local garages that can look at minis? I'd rather find a mini specialist if one is local than a garage used to newer cars.
Thanks

Hello, you met my dad today, he mentioned you were having problems with your car it does sound like its lacking in fuel, so first thing is to check for a fuel leak. then i would first guess like you that its a block fuel filter, drive 2 wheels up a curb so you can get more ground clearance to see underneath what size engine is it? when was it last serviced? any mods? few other things it could be. low dash pot oil in the carb. ( can make it run rough) blockage in the tank, or fuel lines blockage in the carb other than that it could be ignition side. most garages will change a fuel filter for you, they are only a £2 part, most may even have stock of them so could be a quick job. in eastbourne there is not really any mini specialist garages, most people around here do it themselves. as most garages these days don't know how to work on classic cars, they are more used to plugging it into a computer! they only really specialist around here i can think of is Gerald dale motorsport in Hastings. , they build, tune and race minis, they will be able to get your car running right, but like most things it will cost. they don't have a website, only a Facebook page. www.facebook.com/GeraldDale

Thanks for that! My two guesses were fuel filter, which is right underneath (I tried curbing, can't see a blinking thing) or timing on the carb. Doubt it's ignition as I put an electronic one on last month, unless I didn't set it up right.
Will have a look at the other things you suggested this weekend, see if I can get to somewhere that can at least stick it up on ramps so I can see what's goingvoff under there.
Thanks for the help guys!
