Well its that time of year when a small town in France becomes the centre of the the motorsport world. Its Le Mans 24hr time. For those don't know the Le Mans 24hr race has taken place sinnce the 1920's and is held on public roads,it is open to Le Mans Prototype (Lmp) and heavily moddified road car (Gt).
This year im travelling down in the "Grey Thing" with Sean Bedford who some of you will know. We left Eastbourne at 04:00 today in a seriously well packed Mini and are travelling in convoy with 3 other cars.

Right...got back from motorsport heaven late on monday night so I appologise for not updating this thread, but here goes... On the ferry. A nice smooth crossing and then a 280 mile trip from Calais via Rouen to Le Mans, the weather was overcast but dry all the way until we got 5km from Le Mans and then the heavens opened.. At the campsite gate. It rained really hard for about an hour, but luckily the ground in the campsite is sandy/stoney and drains really well so after a couple of hours we had all the tents up,bar-b-que lit and beers in hand. After a late beer fueled night Tuesday dawned.....still grey and overcast and we were still the only ones on our site. Tuesday afternoon was spent in the local Carrefour hypermarket buying more "supplies" and trying on the local fashions.... "I have turned to the dark side" The Le mans circuit has permenant GP length track but only about 1/3 of this is used for the 24hr race as that uses another 6 miles of public roads which are closed when the race is on.Our campsite is normally a spectator enclosure for the GP track which it overlooks, during the race week the teams park theyre truck on thr GP track as can be seen here.. My Mini is just visible behind the Peugeot Estate. Also during race week a large temporary village springs and consists of bars, corporate hopitality, bars, cafes,T shirts shops, bars, bars and more bars. Luckily the village is only 5 mins walk from our campite. Part of the village There is quite a good motor museum at the the circuit which aswell as being biased towards the 24hr event also has a late Mini Cooper in it. I'll be adding some photos of the race later....
