Hi there, I know the speedo drive & cable on the metro engine are different from that of the mini, can I get away with only replacing just the pinion drive housing or do I need to change the speedo drive housing as well or can I use a metro speedo cable (can it be fitted to the back of the dash speedo)? Ant  |

are they that differnet, they should be both screw fit,
try your mini speedo cable in it ,
if it does not fit, change the little housing and maybe the pinion for one from a mini gearbox you dont need to change the whole unit.
never really had a problem,

I thought the drive fittings were the same .
The Mini had 2 differant cable fixing methods at the speedo .
Screw on for the centre clocks and a clip on type for the late type with speedo in front of the driver .
Sure the Metro would be clip on .

i have had a problem with both metro engines. only in as much as the metro seems to have a more squarer pinion than the min and the mini cable just didnt want to fit i just changed the pinion and no probs

I've got this problem as well  My screw ended Mini cable wont fit the screw fitting Metro housing,it may be the inner is too long or perhaps the inner has pulled out of the back of the speedo head but the screw cable fitting wont reach the Metro housing. Might have to take the angle grinder to the inner and shorten it  |

Hmm... well my speedo cable fits into the pinion on the metro lump and screws up but doesn't give correct reading on the clocks - might just change pinion see if makes a difference. Ant |

2 out of 3 of ours give incorrect readings when i did victors i changed the metro for a mini drive and he seems to be ok gilbert has a metro and hes incorrect the sidewalk has a different diff so thats wrong as well
