OH dear how the mighty have fallen..............
Yesterday we popped over to Brighton for a bit of boys shopping (Machine Mart) and while there I thought we should pop into Formula One who were b.i.t.d. a major supplier of performance bits for most cars. I wanted to see if they had an LCB and a K&N filter for our project Mini.....they failed on both points.
B.i.t.d. (1980's) the standing joke was that between the old dear who ran Formula One and Mrs Howe at Geoff Howe exhausts (rear of Holyville cafe near Brands Hatch, now closed down) you could get any problem sorted from the wealth of knowledge that the 2 old dears had amassed from years of experience from selling go faster goodies.
But yesterday our local K&N main dealer failed dismally. The old dear has gone to be replaced by somone and his chum who did'nt know a lot. I wanted a K&N filter but not a conical one as I don't like em,they tried to sell me a nice looking old stock K&N air box with with panel filter but it was for the old type 1 3/4" not my HIF44 and would'nt have fitted no matter how much redrilling of holes. Then I asked for a sub stack to fit the HIF44 and again they tried to sell me one from a 1 1/2" and actually said that "the smaller hole wont restrict air flow" !!!!!! FECKING BODGERS !!!
Oh well,at least I had the sense not to part with any cash for bits that won't fit.
AVOID.

Yes......... Unfortunately as you say they are not the formula one we both remember of old .
Cosworths and nuptied up Corsa's and the like are what guys like that are into but that is what the kids want these days.. Minis are old hat as far as the tuning boys are concerned so the amount of stock these days is low.
Minispares.com ( phone minispares north ) Avonbar and old well established places like that are the way to go but obviously they are not down the road like formula one.
