Hi there people, does anyone know if it is possible to fit the MG Metro front anti-roll bar that they fitted on the GTa and GTi? When looking at it its made up of lower arm and the roll bar which is fixed where the tie bars normally go on a mini lower arm. Think only way that can be fitted is to do away with the tie bars and the roll bar is fitted to the front of the subframe with 2 brackets. Ant

You can't just do away with the front tie rods, how would you stop the suspension arms moving about? Variable caster angles lol
Even if you did work out a way to fit this, Metro track width is considerably wider so I can't imagine how it would fit. Other than an experiment, why do you want to fit it anyway? I'd go for a rear anti-rollbar first from experience.

The roll bar act as the tie bar so to speak I guess because both ends are connected to both left & right lower arms and fixed to the front subframe in 2 places at the front with brackets. I'm not that bothered really if it will fit or not or work, its just sitting in the garage and if someone knows its possible then was going to give it ago. Bit of an experiment... I'll take a photo when I'm back from uni at the end of the week so you guys know what it looks like and how it might fit... Ant

I think the problem is going to be the track width, get some pics on though

I'll have to have a measure of the length of the lower arms to the length of the mini's lower arms, you have already seen it Stephen when you last came over but doubt you remember what it looks like. Ant

Yeah , open the door , throw it in and take it up the tip.
Its wider and longer front to back .
Take the tie rods off . Dont be so bloody daft Ant , you should know better .

Anything is possible . . The front is a bit more complicated . Main concern is the track of the Mini is narrow compared to modern cars , even the old Metro . There is also the possibility the size of the bar could have a negative affect . Unless you have a really sorted suspension set up along the lines of what some of us have described in Project Low's diary, do you really need a front bar ?

Speaking to KAD, their front anti-rollbar is aimed more at track use when everything else is already spot on. The bar is also an exacting diameter of steel rod, as it needs to twist in torsion to a set amount to have the desired effect. A complicated set of calculations go into all this anti-rollbar geometry business - not something you can normally get right straight off unless you buy one of the pre-made kits or are a physicist / jammy git.
Plus stiffening the front tends to increase understeer= nasty
