Hi Kelly's (1993 rio) indicator fuse keeps blowing and the relay keeps ticking. Anybody got any ideas what could be causing this? Could it be a live wire shorting out on the body somewhere? Any suggestions would be most appreciated Thanx Matt

not sure if itll be the same thing but fixed this on a friends mini recently, a connector had ripped off, not sure how, either through rough roads etc and was contacting on the body, every time you but a new fuse it would blow straight away, imagine you have but have a quick look over all the connections/wiring cheers alex

It is possible that the relay could be sticking in the open position which means you end up putting excessive current throught it (what would normally be required to close it) when it is in the open position.
Although you say you have a clicking noise which is normally a good sign as it means the arm in the realy is moving freely.
Do you have a spare relay you can swap it out with for a test?

I would agree with neil the relay may be clicking but this could mean not enough current to hold it in position ( open or closed ). So may have a dodgy coil (burnt out) . If all other connections are sound I would go for a new relay?

if its a solid state relay then there would be no moving parts to make the ticking noise. hence solid state? It is possible that the current is sinking else where to blow the fuse so not enough across the coil to hold the realy in which would cause a ticking? yeah as said BEFORE and Im sure you have already check wiring ;D

right thought maybe relay so bought a spare just to see if it made a diffrence did for a bit but then it returned. checked over wiring in engine bay area all looked good apart from the inline fuse holder had melted only had 10amp fuse in there as it should be, stated by the haynes manual. so put a new mini blade inline fuse in with 10amp fuse. i know the front wings were replaced a year by phats classics so going to check all wires going through the wings and along front panel and back of indercator area also im going to check wires going along floor from front to rear cos i know some welding was don to that for mot heat may have melted a few wires or somthing. cheers for the help matt

all sorted now i hope, it was a green and white wire earthing out on the front subframe tower bolt insulation of the wire had excessive wear so 3 relays and 10 10amp fuses later all i needed was a butt connector and some insulation tape lol ;D i love mini wire looms
