i have a wireing issue with victor.gone from solonoid to pre engaged sure i followed advice by matt.now ive found a stray wire by the fuse box when i removed the wireing loom a year ago i labled all wireing however this one seems to have lost its lable.quite a thick white cable comming from the ignition switch i think. from what i can make out it should go to fuse 1 on an old type 4 fuse box, however there is already a white cable in fuse 1 now if i put this cable on fuse 1 3 or 4 i get no ignition lights and engine fails to turn if i put it on fuse 2 the engine turns wipers work not sure what else as not everything is connected, however as soon as i connect this to fuse 2 ignition and oil light come on without the ignition being turned any ideas as im not very good with the electrical stuff

I think fuse 2 is your permanet live so dont think you should connect it to that lol ;D
From what i can make out sounds like it could be your supply to your ignition switch? so when you turn the key it puts power across your igntion and then broom.
SO as your putting it on fuse 2 ( constant suppply ) your linking out the switch.
BUT why its not working acorss fuse 1 3 or 4 is a puzzle unless it is the supply to energise that relay which has to be powered to enable you to turn the iginition.
Bit of a head scratcher mate ;D ;D ;D
Have you got a cheap multi meter to use?

hi alan, yes ive a meter. relay seems to be working. i know fuse 2 is perm live.have also discovered another live from starter solonoid that i havnt connected lol not sure where that goes yet just strange that i get nothing on any other fuse and if i dont connect to the live in fuse 2 nothing else worksback to the books!!!!my wireing doesnt seem to correspond exactly to them either.

what year is your mini? and is the wiring loom the original loom for the car? is the engine in and earthed and is alternator bolted to engine? as if the alternator isn't connected and plugged in to your loom you wont get the ignition light. i do believe the white wires goes to first pin on fuse box and green wires on the opposite pin. dont suppose you got a pic? matt

matt, its 83 plate engine in ancilleries are in earth strap on,pretty sure your right about white going to fuse 1 , origanal loom, however when i removed loom a year ago i labled all wires as i took them off but i seem to have a brown labled for number 1 along with a white. now the brown goes back through the bulkhead the white is in the engine bay loom the other white comes from the bulkhead loom and im sure that is connected to the ignition this is the wire im not sure about. if i connect both white to fuse 1 move the brown i have labled fuse 1 to fuse 2 along with the other live brown, i get nothing at all. the rest of the connections are all as stated in wiring diagrams
