hi all if anyone has this sort of set up a pre engaged starter with an inertia style wiring loom and want help with wiring it up, i have the solution: all you need is some 30A wire and in line fuse a 30A relay and some electrical connectors. heres how it goes.
Move the big battery cable and all the large brown wires from the lug on the wing solenoid over to the lug on the starter solendoid (you may have to extend some of them to reach).
Mount your relay wherever suits you and on the operating coil side, feed it (tag86) with the red/white wire that used to operate the wing solenoid and make sure the other side of the operating coil (tag85) goes to a good earth point (the wing solenoid was earthed through its mounting bolts so doesn't have an equivilant wire). NB, tag85 and tag86 can be either way around, its only a coil.
On the 30A switched side of the relay (tag30) take a feed either from the 12V high current connections on the fusebox after the fuse or take it straight from the lug on the solenoid but through an in-line fuse. Other side of the relay contacts (tag87), straight to the large tag on the solenoid. Make sure these wires are rated 30A (same size as the main brown wires) and it is a 3/8 lucar connector on the solenoid.
Finally, if your wing solenoid also had a yellow/white or yellow/black wire that you can trace back up to the coil - which means you have a ballast ignition system - take this to the small 1/4" tag on the new solenoid, it is the equivilant ballast bypass contact.
easy! matt
