right guys i have a 96 spi mini sitting in my lockup doing nothing needs inner and outer sills body is untidy, motd/taxed sept and my other mini 1980 1000 is just sitting in the other lockup mot/tax oct waiting for me to fit the s disc setup that ive not got round to doing yet and the servo aswell my question is,,, Is or would there be any benefit if i tranfered the spi gear into the 1980 and whats involved in the conversion
the spi`s 1275 is one of the most quiet engines ive ever heard no abnormal noises or nasty groans very nice lump where as the 1000 is just a bag of spanners
just want to know wether theres any point to doing it and whats involved

as most jobs on a mini quite simple but time consuming you need to run the spi wiring loom you also need to run a return fuel line theres prob lodes more as well the benifits are no manual chock turn the key and go a quiter running engine with no carb indution noise disavantage cant be tuned like a carb lots of eletrics made by rover i have a spi and would never go back when you get to my age you apreshiate the quiter engine

The SPi already has a distributor. Stick a carb on and put it in your other Mini. Retro-fitting the SPi system is a huge and potentially expensive job

hank is running great now,,just cant adjust out the tappet noise lol,,,had to adjust the carb just to get it running properly, shawn came up to adjust the timing aswell,so its running nice (just loud),,maybe a louder exhaust will help drown out the tappets!!! have to strip back the dodgy paint to deal with surface rust thats under it and a few other bits, im glad i painted the subframe before i sold it to oldgit, its still in good nick, but hopefully be sorting it all out next year
ive been chatting to me dad and he suggest getting the spi roadworthy and just use it as a winter mini so to speak, so i asked if he would pay for the panels,,,he put the phone down on me lol

I remeber sarah getting him set up by gerald dale after me and tom fitted the stage one so not sure why there would be carb and timing issues. The engine in the first picture looks remakably like the one in our garage that dad got when sarah bought hank. Any way good luck

yeah i could see the filing gerald did to the needle, but you know how su carbs are 6 months then there out of tune, it probably is the same engine in the garage it had a new stage 1 kit fitted when i sold it, but hey at least this time when i do the work again i wont need to sell it in a hurry and i can actually keep it and use it,

This may be a really stupid question . Have you actually thought about looking into the rattle?
I dont have to tell you used rocker gear and pushrods are cheap and easy to get hold of. With the tappet chest covers on back of the block the followers are easy to get at and inspect . Even if its followers a set of those new is cheap .
carb or Spi . Yes the Spi cars do run smoothly but a looked after mini with a well set up carb on a engine in good health should not be a issue . Lets face it the carb was fitted and worked well for 36years before it was replaced across the Mini range with SPi.
You obviously hanker ( excuse the pun ) for the 1275 . So just fit that .
