i have been working on a friends 1968 today as she has been unable to start it i put the volt meter on the battery and it read 1.4 volts so i jump started it and left her running put the volt meter on and it was reading betwen 11.5 and 12.5 volts left it running for 20 mins turned it off tryed to restart and nothing not even ignition light now i would normaily just put a new battery on and be done but its not my car and i dont want to spend someones money without being 99% sure thats the problem now she informs me the battery is less than 15 months old and that she called out a machanic not so long ago and he told her the dinimo was nackerd because she lives close to a pilon now i think the battery is just nackerd due to it only going for a run once in a blue moon maybe once a year what do you guys think the problem is

You need to check the output on the dynamo. get the car running and disconnect the power cables from the dynamo. it should be about 12V on tickover and 14+V at 2K RPM
If that is working check the voltages at the battery end should go up and down with the revs. if that is OK then it is the battery, if it is not OK then it is the voltage regulator box.I had this fail on my pickup last month.
