Strange Knocking

basicly i have a knock/thump noise when i change gear more so from 3rd to 4th but only when driving. i can not make the noise when stationary. also when i am doing around 30 - 40 mph and dipp the clutch ( so im free rolling ) i can keep selecting from 3rd to 4th and just everytime it engages Knock , knock ,knock ?? sounds more like from the driver side and kinda bellhouseing / bulk head area strange but i cant find the noise because it wont bloody do it stationary

try grabing top of engine and rock it back and forf that should give you an idea ;D ;D

yer i replaced that just bit odd that it still knocks when im coasting and selecting gears

as you say it only does it when driven.

jack up the front end and put it on axle stands, so the wheels are off the floor,
make sure the handbrake is on tight and put a odd brick infront and behind the rear wheels,

get some one to stand BESIDE the car and you get in a softly drive it through the gears while the other person look and listen to see if they can find it,

also whiles it up there check all

engine mounts
ball joints
wheel bearings
rubber cotton wheel mount which holes the gear select up
make sure nothing is hitting , like exhaust.
check the rear subframe mounts, i had the rip off the floor before
make sure nothing is loose in the engine bay and rattling
check the gear selector and make sure the roll pin is in and the bolt is tight

basically give everything a once over to you can single out everything

Have you replaced top steady bush set at the bulkhead and engine end.
When cruising at light throttle and then you give it a bit more power can make worn inner cv joints knock .

hey guys found the crazy knocking noise. there was a bolt sitting out of the bellhouseing and was toatching on body and hitting whenever i pulled away or went up through the gears, that will teach me for not tightening them all thanks for the help tho edmc
