In pictures 1 & 2 you can see the bottom of the thermostat houseing has been brazed. why would you do that N.

did you get that head faced before you put it back on, running your supercharger, i think you want it flat and clean, as you can see that head has been modified maybe a be running a bit rich and maybe a bit of oil but that an A series, but it may of been like that before you got the engine
the only reason i can think of why they brazed it, is because it was cracked or snapped of at some stage
does it run ok with the supercharger kit,

I gave it a good clean up with a wire brush attachment and re lapped the valves. head face was flat so did not require skimming. while it was appart i measured the valves and buretted it I have the measurments wtitten on the garage wall LOL. Only thing that seams different from this to a regular stage III head is that is has larger than average exhaust valves.
just was interested to know what you thought of the black valves in the centre and also the burning around the centre bores on the head gasket.
All seems to be running well with the SC conversion although I have mainly only done short trips due to the carb icing... I do have some troubles starting it after it has been running but I think that is to do with the carb icing.

it may of been worth getting it measured/clecked for flatness, as 2 and 3 to be the stage of a head gasket going maybe !!!( i not a pro at this)(i a bit of a perfectionist and like to make sure everything is right), what were the spark plugs like putting the super charger on and not know the exact CR could give you slightly higher compression( with the decompression plate) as it been put to a modified engine not a standard engine, but if its fine no really problems, leave it, but keep an eye on it, have you got a few guages set up , boost, oil pressure, water temp, etc, they will give you a few warnings before something happens if you find it starts to blow head gaskets often, eather get it all checked to see what compression you have, or you can also get decent head gasket, one very good name is cometic, they can do them in different thinknesses, a normal mini head gasket is around £70 www.cometic.com/sportcompact.aspx

Hi Dean I had stuard calculate the CR based on the existing head which I measures using a burette. I also had dished pistons. previously the CR was 10:1 but now it is somewhere beetween 8 & 8.6:1 the ideal CR would have been 8.5 but my measurments were a little bit approximate hence the guessed CR all seems to be ok though spark plugs were also a bit sootey but I fitted new higher temp ones with the kit. still need to get some extra gauges though Re head gaskets VMAX now make their own spec solid copper one so I wi9ll probably get a couple of them just in case.
