my car has developed a rather loud knocking noise coming from the rear of the car from around/under the fuel tank. it sounds like metal on metal, and i believe its to do with the rear subframe/suspension as its only when going over bumps or on corners but i do not know anything about this section of the car so dont want to make it any worse any help much appreciated ta.

Take the wheel off on that corner and check to make sure the brake hose on the radius arm isn't contacting the boot floor. To be honest though the tyres would probably rub the arches first. Also check the condition of all the suspension components. Do you have a side exit exhaust? Maybe the exhaust is knocking on the valance or subframe somewhere.
Jack it up and have a look before causing any unnecessary damage.

Asking on forum is likely to give conflicting and sometimes confusing answers ,i as other people in the business of safety first would recomend you take it to someone who knows minis well and get it inspected ,any faults relating to susspention and or braking should be correctly diagnosed and repaired quickly to avoid any major problems and safety issues . thats my two penny worth regards shawn aka MiniHaven
