iv just replaced the timing chain as per haynes however when the notches are next to each other no 4 cylinder is on its firing stroke i thought it had to be set up with no 1 on the firing stroke pic as per haynes says to set up but no 4 firing pic with no1 on firing stroke and knotches on timing wheel not lining up i thought no1 on firing stroke the notches would be next to each other is this right

right. 1. why did you not put a duplex sprocket and chain on. they dont stretch as quick
no1 and no4 go up and down together, you know if its on its firing stroke, if you slowly turn the crank, as no1-no4 pistons slowly comes up, watch the exhaust and inlet valves on No4 piston the exhaust should be just closing and the inlet should just be going down, then its on its firing stroke,
the 2 dots should be lines up next to each other, as pick 1.
to test it rotate the crank 2 full turns and it should be on tdc on the firing stroke and they should lineup,

hmm i undestand what your saying but the crank shaft rotates 360 deg to the cam shaft 180 deg on the timing sprockets which means when piston 1 is on its firing stroke i am left with the same as pic 2 is this correct or am i just confusing myself
