Just rebuilding a cyl head at the moment and noticed it has no valve stem oil seals... which might explain the smoke Now I know sometimes there are seals fitted to every valve and some times they only fit them to the inlet... Do I need 4 or 8 or should I just refit with none as before Also can the Head Gasket be reused as the one on there looks perfect Cheers N.

I'm not planning on reusing the HG its just that as it looks in such good condition I will probably keep it as a spare.
Regarding the valve stem seals I think I will also go with 8 then.

arn't you ment to use valve stem oil seals in the inlet but not exhaust to lubricate the valve when hot? when i rebuild mine i think i will only fit seals to the inlet, thats how i found them when i stripped it. Just a thought. Dave

The head I am rebuilding had none fitted when I stripped and it only smoked a little bit.
I have rebuilt heads before with both 4 & 8 seals fitted. I now have 8 new seals so I think I will just fit them anyway.
Not that smoke is a problem as its emmission exempt... as long as you can see through the smoke that is ;P
