Hi there guys, just a quick 1! Basically when I'm stationary for more than 5 minutes in bad traffic/hold up then my temp will basically keep rising till just under the red mark. I always know when its happening because I can hear the electric fan cut in at a certain point where it thinks its getting too warm. When the car's moving its fine with temp either half way or just above. Any idea's... maybe thermostat !?! Ant

I had similer prob but mine was just lac of water ;D Check the thermostats opening properly. Take off the top hose and check water is circling prop and theres no blockage. That is asuming u have checked for leaks and the rad is full. Good luck let us know how you get on.

Low water level, sticking thermostat, blocked radiation, rad fan on the wrong way around, lean fuel mix or incorrect ignition timing are the key areas.
After topping up the water, I'd put someone elses money on a lean fuel mix at low rpms. Had an MOT recently and they leaned the mixture to get the CO2 levels down?

You can check the thermostat by dropping it in a bucket of boiling water to see if it pops. Also run with the heater on that will reduce the engine temp. N

its a mini when they sit still in traffic after being driving for a while they do start to get hot, and even worse when it has been bored out as the bore thickness it thinner, ask jim and dave there cars hates traffic jams,
lucky for you , you have a electric fan which know when it get too hot and cools it down
sounds to me that its doing what it does, and the fan is working
be like a BMW and just drive past everyone else then you will not have to stop
