Well you've a 70bhp (ish) MG metro 1275? Assuming its at 70bhp, you should be able to reach a ton (On a race track or AutoBahn!) Knowing you I assume you've been to Gerald and have a healthy car . Setup engine, no binding brakes, flat tyres etc Gearing maybe... What rpm do you have at 60mph in forth gear or what indicated speed at 3000rpm in forth? Suspect you have the orginal 3.44 metro final drive (for larger wheels!) limiting your top end and economy. Should go like a rocket though ;D

you more than likely have a 3.44 diff ratio which gives you more accellerate than top end, but it will drive happy at 70mph at sensible revs
top speeds depends on the condition of your engine, wheel size, diff ratio,
its not something you worry about, but more to worry if it reving it nuts off at 70mph
does it seem better now you have a HIF44 carb

The power off the line is amazing but im only hitting 75 along the flat, foot to the floor but it gets there fast and screems like a teenager. ;D booked into geralds next week as hes away, but with the nikki carb i was getting 67 bhp. It feels more powerfull with the hif 44 and power is instant but not top end. Its got a standerd mg metro neadle etc in the hif44. surly top end would be more. The spec of my engine is - Source Vehicle : MG Metro Engine type & CC : A+ 1275 cc Transverse mounted Fueling : Engine features : Pre-engaged starter 1985 Requirements Breakerless (electronic) ignition Cold Climate specification
Gearbox features : Std. Ratio Rod Change gearbox with Pot Joints 3.4:1 Final Drive

MAX ROAD SPEED REACHED IN TEST 74.4 MPH MAX ENGINE SPEED REACHED IN TEST 6114 RPM

Checked out your 6100 rpm, 74mph and in third gear (which Gerald does from memory) does work out as a 3.44. www.guess-works.com/Gearbox/Technical/ratio.htmA 3.1 diff (My preferred balance diff... ;D) would put you at 83mph at the same rpm/gear. 70mph at 3600rpm in forth. So you've just slapped on a carb and ragged it tut tut. Wait till Gerald tinkers with the needle and timing Dean, your just toooo slow ;D

I know you wouldn't. Did you check the needle was correct for a 1275 MG though? BDL was the standard fit from memory.
