i have just put a mg metro engine in my mini. yesterday it was running fine but a little lumpy. i put this down to a fine tune needed but today its been very very lumpy miss-firing and undrivable i have played with distributor timing to try and fix problems but no joy. i have changed the coil thinking it may be faulty but no joy. i checked the plugs are all sparking, they are but they were very sooty. So i cleaned them, put them back in and it was fine for 5 mins, then started being lumpy again. So i checked the plugs again and they were dry but sooty any ideas???

If it is running rich the exhaust will also be black and sooty. once it is setup right the exhaust will be a nice grey colour. N

As with all a series engines if you start mixing standard engines carbs , filters and exhaust manifolds with parts standard or modified from a differant type of a series you will have running issues and it will really need rolling roading to set it up properly . Even if you are using all the mg metro carb inlet and air filter i bet your not using the standard mg exhaust system ........ of course you not , you just woudnt . So thats why all these mixed up bits need fine tuning to make them work with each other .
