problems with head studs /nuts

im trying to clean my engine up and giving it the once over to include new head gasket but im having troble removing the head im trying to remove the nuts in the correct order as by the book but im having troble removing the nuts ive snaped my ratchet thay just dont wana budge and am conserned about snaping the studs any ideas welcome

Crikey, they are tight.. I've never heard of anyone breaking a stud, just get some bigger tools on them!! What size ratchet were you using? You should really use a t bar or a breaker bar to undo nuts at high torque settings, 1/2 inch drive, not 3/8ths.

i have a 24" Breaker Bar 1/2" Drive from halfords, does not have a ratchet so you cant brake it, and it has loads of leverage, so it will undo headstuds, give them a spray with wd40 and they should undo,

i use it all the time when i want to undo do anything tight like flywheel bolts, hub nuts, worth the money
