It sounds like the guide rail has fallen off the bottom of the glass. you need to remove the window and rails as per the haynes manual. then ruff up the bottom of the glass with sand paper and glue the rail (rubbers) back onto the glass with auraldite glue then re assemble in a day or so. Good luck N

if its fallen off its usually because the mild steel guide rail has rusted away and in doing so the clamping action is lost as the metal slot opens up , this is only repairable by replacement . If you are lucky to find a non rusty second hand one re fit using the rubber you extracted from the old one and cleaned up. apply a drop of diluted fairy liquid to the glass where it is to go on and push on to the glass gently if it need a tiny bit of persuasion then use a small lump of wood to tap it into place allow to dry a day or so then re fit NO NEED to scratch glass with sand paper or use any glue if the replacement part is ok if you buy new ones they can be expensive so be aware.

Tony, I had the same problem the other day, it turned out to be the glass wasnt in the rubber in the front virtical guide rail. I cured mine by easing the window as far down as i could and then pulled the rubber up and out. I then feed it back down the channel over the glass so that it sat in the grove, its allright now.... hope that helps.
