window wipers tempermental

???hi on my mini the window wipers are sticky and some times dont work at all i heard thay have like a bike cabel can some one plz help tell how to fix got mot wedness day and need fix by then

hi i had tempamental wipers on the l2b run had to get my brother to hang out the window down the a23 wiping it with a cloth ;D found the cause was corrosion in the fues box cleand the turmanals and it was fin think wipers is the 3rd on down let me no how u get on martin

Welcome to the forum

Wipers sound like fun. As they are working, the issue will either be the motor has lost its pep or the cable/wheel box's are worn.

Easiest/cheapest thing to do first is to strip down the assembly, grease it up and reassemble.

Remove the bonnet
Remove the wipers (Use a Haynes manual for the details). Unplug the wiper electrical plug (Check for corrosion and clean).
Undo the large nut with holds the wiper rack to the motor, then strip that secures the wiper motor.
Slowly pull out the motor and cable.
Once removed spin each wiper spindle around 180degree so to use the teeth on the gear never used before (Note someone may have done this before but its worth a try for free )

Put the cable in a carrier bag to avoid grit/dirt getting on the cable. Take the side plate off the wiper and wipe away the crummy grease, lightly smear new grease all over the gears, reassemble. Work new grease into the cable and then reassemble.

Hopefully that will allow your wipers to move more freely. If they only move a small rotation when dry and fly off the screen when wet, long into new wiper box's and cable.

If its slow still, check the power supply to the motor and think about replacement or rebuild of the motor.
